Yeah my local subaru dealer quoted $120 for the 5.5L Castrol SM 0w20

By the way Melville Toyota uses 5w30 Castrol magnatec for all 86 serviced there. Ask me how I know

Yes and no.

For my first service, I rang 4 Toyota dealerships in Sydney and only 1 quoted the right oil. Most were saying 10W-30 etc.

Fyi, the dealership that got it right (and my business) was Ryde Toyota.

I went to my local auto stores but no luck with 0W-20. The closest viscosity that they sell is 5W-30 (Shell Helix Ultra Extra & Mobil 1 ESP) both are low ash. I read somewhere with GDI engine will have more carbon build up on inlet valve.

We are in down under and I believe 0W or 5W will make no difference as we will never have below 0° even in winter (SYD).

0w20 is still easier on the engine startup, but you'll want to go for higher heat tolerance if you're taking it to the track - use 5w30 in that case.

A quick read of Motor Oil Uni @ bitog will have you thinking otherwise. Synthetic especially.

I think the aim is to achieve 10 PSI per 1,000 RPM under racing or any driving conditions. This is an awesome site: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-105/

A pressure gauge in these cars would be handy for the curious mind and perhaps unnecessary as the FA20 is designed to run 0W20 synthetic.

The dealer doesn't care how much it costs, the manufacturer is the one capping the service prices, not the dealer. If it costs the dealer $300 to perform the service, they invoice you $170 and claim the rest from Toyota Australia.

There has been a "GF-5" standard in place for at least 2.5 years but the Toyota brand and the Castrol Edge used by Subaru is only "GF-4" so they are not using the best.

GF-5 must at least equal GF-4 in all parameters and it surpasses in some of them.
