We'll see if its true when the features are officially released.

for the STi/special edition
  • Choice of: Crystal White Pearl or World Rally Blue.
  • only manual transmission
  • STi full lip kit
  • knee pads
  • black and blue alcantara
  • blue stitching
  • frameless mirror
  • red brake caliper
  • 17" STi black alloy rims
  • STi start button
Depressing. Painting single piston sliding calipers red is just lame. Associating this kit with STi is even worse.

I keep looking for something else to buy. I don't feel like waiting another year, but I also don't really feel like being a Porsche owner, and there aren't many other options for a lightweight manual transmission sports car. And in case anyone wants to tell me to just mod the car, please don't bother. I don't feel like throwing away $12K in aftermarket mods to upgrade brakes, suspension, oil cooler, wheels, and power. I am fine with upgrading one or two of those things, but not all of them. The TTS is an option, but the last one had the driver visibility of a Sherman tank, and the new one doesn't look like it will be any better.

*sigh* I didn't expect that this would be a proper revision, but I had my fingers crossed. I love the basic chassis and the design, but I just wish the Japanese would learn from Porsche and offer a proper lineup within a year or two of a new model introduction.

If you are willing to consider an AWD car like the TTS, take a look at the incoming Mk 7 Golf R - it's been winning comparisons in the British/Euro press, and while not as svelte as the TTS it has great outward visibility. Plus you'll save about $10k or more. Evo recently gave it a rave.

I definitely will. I just rented a regular mk7 Golf in Munich and I wasn't as impressed as I had hoped. The R will definitely warrant a test drive though.

The shame of it is that I love the BRZ's looks, driving position, and relative practicality versus a Cayman. I just found it to be very underwhelming in the power department when I drove it, and I know the brakes would be an issue on track if I upped the power. And then there are the wheels and tires, and the weak suspension bits...

So I am hanging, trying to decide if it's worth waiting yet another year. We shall see. I even briefly considered the 2015 Mustang, but I just know it won't be a satisfying sports car. They sound fantastic, but they are just too damned big.

C'est la vie. Fortunately, I am not in urgent need of a new car.

I too am interested in seeing what the blue and black interior on the STi trim looks like (because unfortunately cosmetic is all it is ). @Wandr3r, you had mentioned having some information you couldn't share yet about a week ago. Can you elaborate now?

I'm pretty much in the same spot in my choice process actually, the only addition for me being a consideration of the M235i.

I would not give too much weight to your experience with a base Golf when it comes to assessing the R - that's a bit like basing one's view of the WRX STI on a rental experience with a base Impreza...

True. It's just the cowl and beltline height that drives me nuts in most modern cars. That was one of my problems with the Golf. I know it's a safety issue, but it just feels like sitting in a bathtub. The days of resting an arm on the sill are long gone with most cars. The TTS looks like it will be even worse.

In the end, the test drives always make the choice clear to me. I can spend ages on the internet, but when I drive the car, the decision usually becomes pretty obvious. The frustrating thing to me about the BRZ was that I loved the outside, the seating position, the use of space, and the chassis - but it just felt disappointingly slow.

The M235i is a good one to look at. I am actually going to drive some 2006-08 911s and see if the drive is worth the obnoxious image and the maintenance. It's a shame; I like Toyota and Subaru, and I'd like to support this car.

The M235i is 2X the price of a BRX. As would be something like a TTS or TTRS, no?

I understand what you mean with the M235i it's a great car, and it's got mostly everything that the BRZ has for more money. But you do get that money's worth, if you're willing to pay it. I don't think you can go wrong with the BMW if that is what you're looking for.

I certainly have major visibility concerns with most current cars, in fact I started a thread about it a while ago. But sitting in a GTI I found it to be a lot better than many other offerings; while the beltline is higher than I'd like, forward visibility is decent and with its boxy hatch design it's easy to place the rear of the car when backing up. It was far better than say the A3 sedan I sat in, or the Civic SI, Fiesta ST, 370Z, C7, etc. Porsches are pretty good on that front, but I would not want to roll the dice on a used one - my father had one and even new it had issues that led him to sell it. What a blast to drive though.

New Miata engine/chassis was revealed today in NYC and looks very promising - adding that to my "watch list". Pricing though is a bit insane IMO, top-line PRHT version is currently about $40k CAD - same as a Golf R which has about twice the power and torque. But like you I am still holding out hope for a more powerful 2016 FR-S or BRZ (with a better engine note) because I love its form factor and handling, and its size and weight are right on the money.

I wonder what that exactly affects.
