Road trip from SF to LA, need suggestions!

Hey Friends,

A few of my buddies and I will be heading down to Escondido to pick up a fierce BRZ from Delicious. We'd love some suggestions or insight into your favorite roads! So far this is what we have planned:

1. Friday night, drive from SF to Escondido. Stay in questionable motel.
2. Sat Morning, pick up the car from Delicious
3. if early enough Head to Irvine C&C (where and when?)
3.5 Find good food
4. Drive some classic so-cal roads (your suggestions)
5. Sat night head back to SF.

From my limited knowledge of the area, my guess is the good driving roads are between HWY 23 and 27 around Malibu and Thousand Oaks.

What do you guys suggest?

On the way to LA or SF, drive through Big Sur.

Every sports car should have a right of passage. This is that right of passage.

Stop by at Firestone Grill in SLO for late lunch too, best tri-tip sandwich ever..
and yes, check out the Malibu canyons, particularly Mulholland Dr.

You could make a pass through Topanga Canyon.

I hear there is little traffic on Sat mornings ~8 AM.
(although it has been over 20 years since I drove the canyon in my other 2.0L boxer)

Super comprehensive site! The guys I'll be with definitely love smooth roads so that rating system is great.

We will likely take hwy 1 through big sur on the way to formula D or something later in the year. Glad to hear you highly suggest it!

sounds like you're probably taking the 5 up / down?

i'd say skip the local road tour (although there are great roads), go down early enough on friday to take the stone brewery tour, and take all day saturday to cruise home on the pch.

Make a pass through Angeles Crest for scenery, and Monterey Park for delicious Chinese food.
