Congrats on the numbers especially with the fuel you are running! Gotta love being on the track and still have an old school true street race type environment.

That near 8k pull makes me feel so much better about my 50RPM bump over the OFT OTS tune I like to run this motor out A LOT!

Would you feel comfortable reving out to 8000 RPM on your new car (with FI) considering what you have been through with this motor?

With a stock motor? Only for a hero dyno run. I wouldn't ever do that at the track, or even on the fwy in the higher gears.

That struck a chord! I had the same thing happen when challenged by a fox body. I was holding it down and then GO! Serious panic attack.

Does this engine have issues with 8k rev limits?

The valve springs have a seat force of about 35lbs.

A Honda K20 is about 55lbs, and is made to rev to 8000 RPM. Aftermarket springs frequent the 85-100lb range.

What happens when your valves are harder to open? You make less power (saps more power from the timing chain -> crank), but you have less chance of valve float.

You don't want valve float.

Is this a proven problem? No. It it something I would risk on my own engine? Nope.

My tuner assured me that 8000 revs are safe. Which is why I do close to or sometimes 8000 rpm shifts on the track. Afr is 11 on 4000 rpms up.

On stock injectors and pump, afr was leaning out past 7000 rpms. So, my rev limitter had to have a 6800 cutt off.

Im now on 700cc DW injectors and 265 l/hr fuel pump.

I'm not going to go so far as to say your tuner is wrong or doesn't know what he's talking about, but all of the information I've ever read on these forums or in technical articles regarding the FA20 motor says the valve springs in this motor are not strong enough to safely rev this motor to 8k. Just my $0.02.

I sincerely wish you luck if you plan on doing it over and over, and majors props on the power. That is some seriously smooth power delivery.

Though 30lbs is not a lot, floating valves has a lot to due with valve size/weight, and harmonics with the cams. Higher lift angles will float sooner. Cams with smoother ramp angles will rev higher. Likewise, rocker arms (or lack thereof) will also affect this.
