I am averaging about 26 in my MT. 3K miles, 1300 on the highway with 70-75 speed limit.

I'm DDing manual and I live up in the Bay Area which, while it's no LA, does have plenty of nasty traffic. I deal. No regrets so far and I'm 5k miles in.

Does the soft clutch make a huge difference?

This car is a great DD for what it is. The clutch, for street driving, is actually nice.

I get between 25 and 30 mpg depending how I drive

I can sit in 30-40 minutes of stop-n-go traffic every day and NOT mind the clutch/shifting on a "GOOD-feeling" manual transmission.. Unless it's got a super-hard clutch or tough, imprecise shifter, I LOVE shifting a manual just for the sake of shifting it!

3k miles on mine...and average 27.3 in 6MT since day I bought it (31 May). Driven mainly city miles, light traffic...but also thrown in a few trips to the beach, Charlotte, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC.

1,323 miles thus far, and the gauge in the car shows a 20.5 average... Semi-aggressive driving (always at or about speed limit) , and 90% city driving.

Still better than my previous cars, I suppose...

I commute in traffic everyday, should I get AT or MANUAL? I love how AT saves about 15-20% fuel compared to MT, any thoughts?

Ehhh I think the EPA numbers may be a bit off. I know a few guys who are getting the same mpg as I am with their MT, but it all has to do with your driving style. I believe the gear ratio is different for the AT, which allows for a better theoretical MPG.

I drive an AT FR-S. I'm pushing 32.4 mpg average (almost 40 on the highway), but that's when I'm driving conservatively.

When I autocross it, that's a different story.

If you were up to this point, a die-hard MT driver, then go MT. If you've never driven an MT, this might be a good platform to learn. But there's no prob in fun-ness to drive with an AT.

The FR-S is my DD. No regrets.

Seriously though, this car pretty much is a Corolla. A tank of gas got me from DC to NY and back.

I dd my 6mt. Don't own any other vehicles. According to the dash computer I average around 22-24 mpg. That's all city driving though, and I do not baby it at all.

If I commuted more than 10 minutes each day I would probably have to do something with the seats. I've done a couple of 3+ hour trips so far and my back gets pretty sore after the first 2 hours or so. Maybe just a rolled up towel or something. It's going to get a 12 hour workout going from Illinois to Maryland in the next month or two here, so we'll see how that goes I guess.

Yep, mileage is quite good on the interstate. If I fill up before leaving, I can make it to my parents' in NEPA without stopping for gas, and have about 1/4 of a tank left when I pull in.

My tC could make the trip too, but the tank would be basically empty when I got there.

I get pretty lousy mileage driving around NoVA, though, partially because of traffic, and partially because of driving style. I get 22-24 around town.
