Merely a flesh wound?

I am sad for this to be my first post, but such is life sometimes. I bought my 2014 BRZ in October, and it only has ~4,400 miles on it. The other night when I was minding my own business on my way home, a 350Z was swerving through traffic on the freeway and hit me by the left front wheel. I went spinning and hit a construction sign and slid ~50 yards backwards down into an embankment, running over some small trees in the process. As you can see, I have damage all around the car, but there's no telling what kind of undercarriage damage there is from plowing through the foliage.

I have no idea if anything happened to the engine, and for whatever reason, none of the airbags deployed. As a result, I'm not sure enough damage was done to the car for it to be totaled. I know I'm not going to be satisfied if it gets repaired. We shall see how it goes. It was brought to the dealership this morning to be looked over by my insurance. There is currently one for sale with the same color and specs as my first, so hopefully I can buy that as a replacement.

In the meantime, prepare yourself for the carnage:

Ouch!

Could be way worse than it looks, but if it's only as bad as it looks then it's totally fixable... but it's going to be costly for your insurance.

Ballpark eyeball WAG estimate would be $7k in damages?

So, the 350Z guy is paying for everything, correct?

Yup. A bunch of witnesses stopped and made sure the police knew that it was entirely his fault so there would be no question about what happened. (It was good they were to tell me what happened there because I was so disoriented from the spinning)

Youch. I'd say at least $14k.

Brightside is that you're ok.

Where's the story behind this?

Edit: NM. I just skipped to the pictures accidentally.

I'm wondering why the OP won't be satisfied if this is repaired? As long as everything is fixed and there was no serious frame damage, it should be fine. Bent parts replaced, etc. Should be good to go. It'll be a different story if the frame has to be put back to rights, though.

I think that the airbags NOT going off is a good sign. It means collision force and angle of impact wasn't enough to warrant their deployment, which says good things about the levels of energy imparted into your vehicle.

The main reason I wouldn't be satisfied is because of how it was still practically new, and now it has been tainted. I'm picky like that

If the insurance company does not total it, you are going to be SOL. You can't sue the other guy since it sounds like they never caught him and you don't know who he is.

You would most likely be looking at a huge financial loss trying to sell a damaged/repaired car that is less than 6 months old and has most likely already lost 10%+ of the purchase price + taxes and dealer fees.

All you can do is hope there is lots of structural damage and the car gets totaled.

Oh, the guy didn't get away. His axel bearing broke so he was stranded in the middle of the freeway. He was cited and the officer listed him as at fault.

I also would not like it if the car had to be repaired.

And the airbags not deploying means nothing in terms of damage. Getting hit in the rear doesn't make the airbags deploy.

I'm not sure what the protocol is for airbags, but I would make sure they include the airbags/test in the estimate.

I sure wouldn't be satisfied even if it gets repaired.

Even a minor bumper to bumper accident will make me fucking sad, if it happens to my fairly brand new car.

Where in TN are you located? I'm assuming central to west as I can't see any "Smokies" in what pics you have.

Glad to hear you're OK!

'Tis but a scratch!

Seriously though glad you're ok - it looks like the car did a great job of keeping you safe.

Here's to a speedy recovery/replacement.
