Not on the island but it is the only certified one in Vancouver.

Thanks! Looks like I might have to go to Vancouver for this. The videos online make this film look amazing. Self-healing, what is up with that...Sounds great!

Question is, how does it work

If the dealer wants to do Opti-Coat, you'd better see the certification.

The Opti-Coat that's worth a damn is Opti-Guard (formerly Opti-Coat Pro) and is only sold to/installed by certified professionals.

Otherwise, yeah, they're probably fucking with you.

I believe the urethane allows it to self-level minor scratches. The bra is approximately 8 mils thick, similar to a thick Ziploc bag. Now if it gets cut or chipped it won't heal but check out this video to see it in action.

Good point on the certification. Although Opti-Guard is very similar in chemical composition to Opti-Coat (previously when it first came out it was very different) now Opti-Guard just has a quicker flash time and sets much faster leaving it more difficult to fix high spots.

They didnt give specifics, but the invoice should show. Im new to these detailing terms. So what would they be doing for 1,299 special to prep the car besides undercoat and leather treatment

Opti-Coat requires bare paint and the surface to be free of defects. When you use Opti-Coat you effectively seal in the paint in it's current condition. It can only be removed by polishing, so the paint needs to be polished free of scratches and then washed and wiped clean of any polishing oils so it bonds properly (this is the difficult part). This can take anywhere from 4 hours (for near perfect paint), to 12-16 hours (for most cars requiring 2-step polishing to clean up defects and bring the paint to a high shine).

There is no reason for an Opti-Guard job to cost $1300 on a new car unless OP is being brutally, brutally fucked by the shady people at his dealership. There is no other scenario that is even within the realm of sense.

Again, OP:
You do not need special dealership undercoat.

You need to take your NEW car to a place that specializes in clear bra - Protex BC looks like they're XPel Ultimate dealers/installers - and have them install it on your NEW car.

THEN you need to take your NEW car to a detailer and have them polish and Opti-Coat everything that is not clear bra'd.

This is the ONLY way to ensure that these things are done correctly.

If the dealership will not allow you to do these things and they are important to you, walk away.

How can I walk away, this late in the game??? I am supposed to pick up tomorrow morning and they are supposed to have all the detailing done.

They told me their detailers are anal about detail, etc. and that to get it done by the shop it normally costs $1,600 and with new car and dealer special you get it for $1,200

I thought it seemed unreasonable, but they would not budge. Damn stealership!!!

Help!!!

Personally it's more so the moral issue that they wont budge on an added package that I have an issue with. Dealership in Vegas refused to drop a $1300 Assurance package which had Lojack and oil changes and I walked.

Oil changes included in the package? I get a total of 1 oil change free from Scion, and then another 8 from the package deal.

I can't walk as the Monogram is my dream car and I don't want to miss this opportunity!

OP, chill out... Ask them if they know what a paint correction is. If they don't, then you're car is definitely in the wrong hands, and should not use a buffer on the car.

Ouch! You are being charged an outrageous amount. I got my car professionally detailed (washed, clayed, paint correction) and then Opti-Coated for $400.
