I try to hyper mile when I can so I can have fun and not feel the burn.
I don't think I have ever lugged this engine. By lugging I mean high gear, low rpm, and engine hopping.
Will anything less than that cause harm?

I would prefer a taller gear ratio in this car. Mainly for cruising speeds on the highway. 6th helps yet I would prefer to be turning about 2500 RPMs at 80mph instead of 3200-3300 RPMs.

Your car was "drinking antifreeze like kool aid" and blowing white smoke out the tailpipe, and nothing at all was wrong?

What do you mean by "hyper mile"?

Possibly a higher torque value at the higher speeds would be needed. Other more informed posters may have a more detailed explanation.

No codes, they refilled the antifreeze. Smoke stopped and I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary as of now. Maybe I was Trippin on acid jk jk.

I cruise around in 5th at 35mph and down shift to speed up or go up a hill

But I would Imagine the computers would give me optimized fuel mixtures in a brand new engine. Nevertheless, I have only 157 miles on it so I probably havnt ruined anything yet. I have seen some break in manuals say top gear acceleration is desirable but I might be over doing it. I am debating keepin on keeping on and see what mpg numbers I get, then try the more traditional method and compare mpg. What type of issues should I expect with this type of driving?

I know right! I want an overdrive/mpg gear. I'm pretty sure that all 6 speeds on this car are for hard driving. As far as I know, if you are running around a track in the new C7 vette. You would never want to go into 7th because it's purely for mpg, 5th takes you to 200mph im pretty sure. I kinda wish we had a 7th overdrive gear too.

Nope. It wasn't that good. Anemic throttle response, it was beginning to fall apart despite religious preventative maintenance, driving position was the same as every other econobox, old stereo with blown speakers.

Hell, I was getting ready to drive my girlfriend home one evening, when I slid the selector into D4 white stopped, and *bang*! Drive axle broke. Car wouldn't move.

After I got my forester in 2005, I got a good comparison & I realized just how crappy the accord was. The thing has trouble just going up a normal incline.

On phone I am. Therefore, if mistakes I make, Frank Oz blame you should.

I have always driven manuals (going on 16 years now) and I am no means an expert but I think it mostly comes down to personal preference. I will also add that I have always driven my cars a bit hard. The phrase “drive it like you stole it” has been used to describe my driving style. Haha With that said, I tend to only use 6th gear on the highway or at speeds above 55 mgh. If I’m cruising around 35-45mph I’m usually in 5th, sometimes 4th.

Oh that sucks must be the wear and tear mileage overtime. A friend of mine also had a drive axle break on him with an old '87 Accord. My gf in high school had an '89 Accord with low mileage and it was a real blast to drive (other than the really slow acceleration). I'm saying this even when I was driving my parents' new '96 Integra at the time (still very fond of the handling of this car).

I feel so bad for the younger kids that have to put up with crap like a Toyota Matrix (does that even come in a manual?).

Wrong, wrong, wrong. You are completely incorrect.

6th gear in this car is overly long. It is, in essence, your overdrive gear.

Look at any mapping of the stock gear ratios and you'll see a nice, even curve till 6th when the line for 6th dives down & out, really long.

If you want to know what a 6th great that's meant fire hard driving is like, drive an STi. One of the reasons it drinks gas is because ALL of its gears are very close ratio.
