I keep mine in a google drive spreadsheet with where I plan to buy and how much it costs for each part, then keep a total of all prices at the end. Of course, when I obtain something, I scratch it off the list.

I fully understand. Heck, even buying more microfiber towels may need to be argued. :-)

This.... Worst thing I have ever done was create a spreadsheet of all the costs on my current project car. I stopped updating it after I was approaching $5k in mods on a $1800 beater Miata. I know I'm easily around $$7k-8k by now & I still have lots of major things left to do...

Simple Excel document with various columns containing prices, links to vendors and notes.

Or post here so one day someone will quote you, bringing your thread up from the dead, asking how the mod went. Now you have accountability

I use Trello. It's not very useful when trying to track monetary costs (this should be done with spreadsheets like others have mentioned). The way I use it is create categories of backlog of mods to order, Ordered mods awaiting arrival, goodies in possession needing to be installed, and installed awesomeness. I can quickly glance how many mods are in each bucket and freely move/create a single mod in each list. I think of it as 'progress tracking' rather than cost tracking.

Edit:
As a bonus, this tool is meant to be used for collaboration and can be very helpful with families/SO's as any member(s) can create shopping lists, house chores, etc and allow each member to update the list statuses quickly and easily.
