yolo dude. just come to Cali! West side till I die! Honestly emissions and etc don't worry me at all, considering that smog checks are once about every 5-6 years. I can just swap OEM parts back into the car and reflash the car back to the stock ecu. Also, if I'm not driving like an idiot, why would a cop pull me over- aside from complementing my gorgeous ass car?

Those high flow cats are generally called "49 states legal" cats. OP, you'll be fine with a catless header and either stock FP cat, or go with a highflow cat.

If you're still worried, get an E85 tune and have E85 in the tank when you go for the sniffer test.

Here in AZ, they just check to make sure you have no CELs as long as your exhaust isn't overly smelly or suspiciously loud. No sniffer for normal emissions testing (we call it "emissions test" here out west too).

For those in Calli skirting the rules feeling safe because you have a 6 year exemption... You are not safe. There are now rolling smog checks. Star program. Like a DWI check point. Probable cause to pop the hood and BAM. Car is impounded. $2500 per day until the car is put back to stock and re-inspected by the state. Laws have been in effect for some time. But they finally now have funding to actually enforce the laws.

Several manufactures were fined $5 Million each recently for selling parts in Cali that are illegal for "on highway" use. Next step for the state is to go after the shops that install/tune. Ask me how I know...

Cali found money? What'd they do, rob ft knox? Last I heard, they were too broke to pay pensions.

But that really sucks, man. You know, other states would love to host your business and the revenue it'd bring in...

The op isn't in California, so California definitions don't apply.

On phone I am. Therefore, if mistakes I make, Frank Oz blame you should.

HI,

I have a question related to tune in CA.
Can I just simply reflash back to the stock map before the check and pass?
Thanks.

Anyone know the aftermarket catted manifold with heat shield have
chance to pass the smoke test in CA?

I understand that technically it is still illegal.

I am thinking buying this header.

I don't know if is relevant to people in the U.S. but I failed the IM240 test here in Aus with 2x200 cell cats. I am now researching 300 cell cats.

Captain Snooze: hmm, interesting. Drop in a word if higher rated will help. I wonder how rated might oem stock ones be, both of them. If it's simpler/cheaper to replace cats on relatively simple frontpipe, then it might be harder to do for header, no? And if that one stays as is, i wonder if some 'staggered setup' of lower rated cat in header and higher cell count cat in frontpipe can help ..

I think oem are 400 cell/inch. I am waiting on a reply from Random Technology. If theirs are 300 I will see if JDL are willing to make me up another header and mid pipe using Random's cats.
