my previous car was a 2001 Subaru Impreza RS

AWD is hype

never again

also, old japanese cars in canada = epic rage inducers for repairs.

(unless summer only + babied... but i'm not that kind of guy)

Maybe in a sub 200hp N/A car it is, but it's really not.

exactly

only in the upper levels of racing is it worth it

i'll gladly drive a Lancia Delta S4 if i can get ahold of one.. but for the weekend warrior AWD is too much work and def no needed for everyday chillin.

What year/mods?

I thought I missed my WRX, but had a chance to drive it again (sold it to a friend who lives in Montana) around a year after selling and ~9 months into Twin ownership. Turns out lightly modified suspension (mostly bushings) wallows and feels like jelly; the car understeers like shit; the boost while easy to be in falls off at ~5K and makes you wonder why you even revved out past 5k;if you're NOT in boost the engine feels like dogshit; the steering is number than novocane ...

Now the new STI chassis is supposed to be amazing, but I wouldn't buy a new car with a 10 year old (over 20 year old architecture!) engine.

It was a 2012 sedan with catless down pipe, axle back exhaust, intake, and Opensource tune.

I liked it. The steering was a bit numb, as were the brakes and the suspension did feel a bit wishy washy. I also envied the 6spd and 5x114 bolt pattern.

The new WRX seems to have addressed nearly everything I didn't like about the old model. I can get a fully loaded wrx or a base sti. I'd have to drive both first before deciding which to buy though.

Torque is nice... when it is not FWD. I remember one time, I floored it in my Cobalt SS/TC to get around a car and literally almost torque steered into it

I've found that to be true with a lot of my previous cars. I really enjoyed my Prelude SH and thought I had made a mistake initially when I got my FRS. After driving the FRS around for a solid week, I got back into my Prelude to get it ready for sale. I couldn't believe how loose, and uncomfortable the Prelude felt.

I think old cars are like ex-girlfriends. After a while you start to have those "what if?" thoughts, but once you finally talk to her again you quickly realize why you broke up with her in the first place.

My neighbor is getting the new WRX in Limited trim in May or June. I'm going to see if I can get a ride/drive it a bit after he breaks it in and see if I could live with it. Otherwise, I rather enjoy the steering/braking feel of the BRZ more than my modded WRX and STI of past.
