I've read that basically, because they are selling more wrx's than sti's, they had the need to improve the power on the wrx to appeal to more people (hence adding the cvt aswell) to continue selling more of them. Subaru seems to think that the 2.5 was making good power but the previous chassis could not use it to its full potential, hence plopping it in the new and improved chassis. They also figured that folks that buy the sti are more inclined to mod the car, so its more "aftermarket" ready. They may think its a "smart" move in the business sense, but this is from the same company that thought this was a good idea:

then have to spend all that time, money and effort to getting it right

Edit: read it here http://www.torquenews.com/1084/2015-...t-2015-wrx-sti

@BigFatFlip Arghh my eyes! Why did you have to post that hideous thing! I'm hoping this newer WRX design is like that 08 design... one they will perfect over time and in a few years will look totally badass and flared out.

Also, how did you schedule a test drive for the new WRX? Did you fill out that online form or just go into a dealership?

I went to Capitol Subaru to check out the new WRX about a month ago, but when I got there found out they had moved it to a different dealership two hours before I got there.

Didn't fill out anything, just gave my sales guy at Livermore Subaru a call (same guy I worked with when I bought the brz and outback). It was nothing official, just added to a list of folks he'd call when a car is available.

I guess if you wanted a new one you could wait and see how the new motor is before buying.

I really don't think it's that bad. I'm not a former Subaru owner/fan boy though either.

See I loved the 2004 designs and haven't been the biggest fan of the 2009-now designs. This new one just looks like lazy design that didn't take it's closest competitor into account.

I love the wide body hatch on the 08-14 STi and 11-14 WRX. YUM! I think because I'm not a fan boy I can love them all individually and not compare it to the styling I had, because I never had one. Clean bugeye sedans are still my fav.

I would consider myself a "fan boy" and always find myself going through the stages of "bleh! Hate it!" to "eh its actually not that bad" and "ewwww the last one was way better" quite often. I have a feeling this one won't be any different.

That's exactly it.

Best front end since 98-01.

As far as teh rest goes......it's no longer a hatch, so it's useless to me. At least the WRX got an awesome new powertrain/driveline.
