The Rockford powered sub is hardly to the level of a "good" sub (i.e. $500 or $1000 worth of amp, box and speaker), but it's a good, inexpensive upgrade.

and that is why i try not to comment like that against lower end gear.. i agree that the latest rf stuff is not very good, but if he likes it, there's no reason to bring up it's relative quality..

really though, i hate recommending gear because my ear is apparently completely different from everyone else's... i can hear distortion at car shows from a good distance away, and whoever i'm at the show with always looks at me like i'm crazy when i start cringing.. "you don't hear that sub bottoming out or distorting!?!?"

Which is why I'm not really complaining about the stock dash speakers despite the fact that I didn't like their lack of clarity... they're not that bad.

But those "subs" were so damn bad that you'd have to have leprosy as well as be deaf to NOT be able to tell that they were bottoming out severely way too easily.
