Hi ya subiestyle ......

How are you liking that monogram .. ??

Have you attempted to adjust the clutch .. ??

If you have, I'd suggest you put it back to its factory settings.

If you haven't I'd suggest you leave it alone.

If your clutch is dangerously low on free play, when you are in gear and the clutch is all the way "up", the engine will rev up but the car won't go anywhere ....

Back in the day, when the clutch pedal was "linked" to the clutch fork, one would want at least 1" of free play at the top.

Hey, have a great weekend!

no, i haven't adjusted the clutch. i was going to until i read through the whole thread and saw the potential problems.

the clutch is engaging the flywheel after letting go of the clutch pedal. that's not my concern. my concern is that it is putting unneeded wear on the clutch bearing.

Well, subiestyle, if you haven't messed with the clutch adjustment ..... I wouldn't worry about the throw out bearing .... it will be just fine ....

What road trips do you have planned for this summer ....

If you don't know what those are, then you have no business adjusting the clutch pedal.

Go out to your car and open the hood. Familiarize yourself with what all you see there. That is how you learn. Not by being lazy and asking someone else to take a picture for you.

Sent from somewhere.

Snobby attitude? No, it is called constructive criticism. I was genuinely trying to help you out. People get butt hurt over the least little things now.

Actually looking, touching, and moving is how many of us learned what is what on/in a car.

Maybe you opening the hood yourself is beneath you?

Hi subiestyle,

One can take a picture of the clutch pedal and the master cylinder and fluid reservoir but the rest is pretty well hidden and takes dissembly to see the various parts.

Basically, the way it works is that when you punch on the clutch pedal it pushes a rod into the master cylinder and fluid is pushed through lines and actuates the slave cylinder which is hooked to a lever that grabs the throw out bearing which puts pressure on the fingers of the pressure plate which forces it away and allows the clutch disk to run free (not smashed up against the flywheel) which is bolted to the crankshaft of the engine ........ or something like that.

Maybe these diagrams will get you orientated.

It also shifts your clutch biting point all over the place during a drive too - happened to me when I was messing with the clutch trying to sort out the sh*tty gearchange on my old miata. Not a mistake i'll be making again..

I had some time to read over the owner's manual and there is free play in clutch. Can't remember the exact number though.

Subaru says: 0.2" -- 0.6"

Every new car I've owned for many decades has typically spec'd 1/2" to 5/8" free play at the top of the pedal stroke.

At the bottom of the clutch pedal stroke, it is important that the clutch be fully disengaged.

The range of safe pedal "ride height" adjustment may not be as large as some think. Improperly adjusting the clutch pedal "ride height" may result in transmission/clutch problems if the above requirements are not met.
