You've got to be kidding me about the out of state tax..... I've already paid a goddamn tax on the car. There's no way I'm going to have to pay $2000 just to get my car registered here in Georgia, just because I moved here. Already paid taxes in TX. You guys are joking right? Haha?

From what I've read you have to pay the next "one time" tax anytime the car is titled, which includes moving into the state. I didn't see any credit for having paid sales tax anywhere. It is passed on the current value of the car though, and apparently they let you pay 50% at time of title application and the other 50% before the next tag renewal for cars moving in from out of state. By the way, unless you are planning on selling the car in the next 2 to 3 years, that's still cheaper than the the old annual tax.

Yeah and the fee is 50% of the 6.5% overall, so it's not going to be anywhere near $2k but might be 700-800. If you plan on staying in GA and keeping the car for two years it will end up being cheaper than the old ad valorem tax. I'm surprised someone hasn't challenged this in court, GA calling it a fee and not a tax so they can basically double tax doesn't sound kosher. Especially screws those selling and buying used cars. The same fee could end up being paid a bunch of times.

Yeah I'm just gonna keep my car registered in Texas lol. Besides my license plate looks infinitely cooler than GA plates.
