It's funny, I never really thought of myself as a person who likes their car SLAMMED. I just don't want to deal with scraping.

I feel like hybrid setups might be a good compromise but I'm still trying to collect more information

This is true but the OP didn't say anything about massive drop. If he is looking for massive drop then bags are the only way to go. Performance won't be as good as a top of the line coilover but it won't be terrible like some people say.

Heck, the OEM setup is a coilover...the coil spring is over(around) the damper. It's just not adjustable.

Maybe that's part of my point. does the addition of a bag of air mounted on the coil ruin it's handling characteristics?

That way we don't get lost in the details of whether KW Clubsports are better than Fortune Auto

Controlling the spring rate of the bag, is going to be based on inflation pressure. It would take some testing to correlate the two. If you could match the spring rates, and the damper characteristics, sure, it would ride like OEM, but the spring rate would be somewhat progressive, and most likely not at the same rate as OEM.

In theory, yeah, you could match OEM, in reality has any manufacturer?

you can go much lower if you get the ground control camber plates and rear robispec top mounts, mixed with the stance lcas. i can lay frame with that setup and still probably have a good amount of threads left.

Broadway static and a few others have a setup that has coilovers with bags on top so you can get over obstacles and when fully aired out its as if they aren't even there. It's an option. I know atleast one of the brands could be installed on any coilovers. Kinda best of both worlds. They even make a front only kit like the lamborghini's and ferrari's

Wouldn't it be better to go with bags if you want to go lower, just for practicality purposes?

I think he's talking about bags used in conjunction with those parts

I still don't get what the OP wants to do..

lower by 2.5-3" and still perform well at the track?

or just a general question about bags for motorsport use?

General questions.

I basically want to know if air ride would be a performance downgrade from stock or slightly better than stock suspension.

Will something like the Air Lift Performance kit ruin the handling characteristics of the car?

That's really what I'm trying to assess.

Can bags perform as well as coilovers?

@yuicebox it's not a downgrade at all.
