This I did not know, I never specifically tried it while driving an auto 86.

I'll have to try it as well. At first I was thinking no because it will hit every gear for a second when you multiple upshift. But downshifts are very quick and I do believe it skips for double or triple taps.

I have found no difference in results between paddle or floor. Same thing, different lever. I usually use the paddles, but if I'm in slow tight maneuver it's easier to find the floor shifter on occasion.

Hell, i actually knew basically nothing about ATs beyond they have a torque converter until now. I am learning about it as I need to know what it can withstand as I increade power and abuse. So does that mean I am more connected than an MT drover who doesnt understand ATs since I know both?

Im not trying to sound like a condescending ass, I just like to ask questions to further discussion.
Since you started with MT and then switched over, it makes sense to you but for most of the general public in NA that starts with an auto (or god forbid the new CVTs), they won't know half of what you do. All they will know is "D is for DRIVE!" and that's the end of that. They will have nav screens, auto nannies, ABS, EBDs, etc. and they won't know what they all do.

Knowing about an AT doesn't always translate into making you a better driver since there's nothing you can really do depending on the car. On the other hand, know how a MT works means you can experiment with clutch dumping, heel-toe, gear selection for starting in poor traction, etc. It gets you more involved because you are more involved instead of leaving it to a computer.

Ironically in today's day an age, MTs have become even more of an art since it is dying.

Someone once said to me: "You can't teach them passion - either they really want to learn manual or they just won't make the effort."

True story - I had a friend who was all revved up and wanted to learn stick shift and then was daunted by the fact it made him look like an idiot. He went and bought a VW Golf R with the DSG. When I uttered my disgust at his ease of giving up, he thought I was bashing the DSG. Some people just don't get it and I've learnt to live with it.

The key thing is: if you're happy, then all the power to you. I on the other hand, will hold my gear shifter until they pry it out of my dead hands... or my left leg becomes un-useable.

Yup. Granny shiftin, not double clutching like he should.

I went with the automatic.

Since a back injury, my legs don't work well enough to drive a stick any more.

I rationalize this by thinking of the paddle shifters as Ferrari-esque. Or Porsche Tiptronic-esque, if you prefer.

And since I am coming from a Prius, I appreciate the couple of extra MPGs.

P.S. I flat out LOVE this frigging car!

So no troll thread. If I have to dig looking for a thread that I don't know for sure exists, why wouldn't I try a new one?
And lol @ those taking the time to post in a thread to say its a repost.. Y'all are quite funny.

I have the stick,
However I would've been happy with An auto as well.
Mainly because the auto in these cars is actually really good and sporty, it shifts very quickly and won't up shift on its own in manual mode. Also in LA gridlock, auto is much easier on the knees than the manual.
However, personally, in this car the manual just seemed more appropriate. Yes the auto can double shift fairly quickly, but not as quickly as one could do the same in a manual, esp a triple gear shift.
There's something about having a clutch that just makes the car more engaging.
Finally, the manual just felt quicker than the auto. Don't know how true that is, and comparing media 0-60 times of autos and manuals that would appear true. But most of all, it felt quicker.
But again, I have no negative feelings towards the auto in these cars....it's a very good one, and is relatively intuitive in sport mode.

Hmmm.. I live in a city where traffic is hell.. Like bumper to bumper traffic. I owned both Manual and Auto transmission. Probably I would consider things like;

1. Will this car be my daily ride?
2. Will I use this vehicle in a traffic congested place more than 50% of the time
3. Will this be a alternate/spare car

If the answer is yes to all 3, get the manual. If the answer is yes to 1 & 2, get the AT. Honestly, get what you can live with on a daily basis and will give you the utmost pleasure.

AT more comfortable to drive daily. Manual, faster and if you know how to manage the gears and to coast properly you can achieve phenomenal gas savings. Oh yeah, CVTs are really good in ECO driving against the normal AT trannies. I think I won't be able to beat the CVTs low gas consumption in normal conditions, unless we are both stuck in heavy traffic.

I agree, whatever car u can be happy with day in and day out is the right choice.

But why the mention of cvt? Lol

Don't flatter yourself bud, all auto/manual troll threads eventually end up with the same amount of response as yours. It's obviously a topic way overdone on these forums.

Just in case the person rather go with a different car than an 86.
