I meant to buy brand new. At least around me.

I test drove the AT first because I couldn't find an MT local to try out. I was pretty disappointed. When I was finally able to test drive an MT, it felt like a completely different car.

I've never owned an Automatic and don't plan too any time soon.

Haven't made my purchase yet, but it will be an automatic. I really suck at driving stick, plus this thing has the best auto transmission I've ever driven, by a lot. Not to mention this will be my daily driver. Factor in the hilly terrain of middle Georgia as well, and yeah...........
(I'll probably pick up a used manual 86 at some point though. Gotta learn at some point, right? )

You do realize if you type FT86Club and whatever you want to know into this magicians tool called Google, it gives you an option to see "More Results from ft86club.com." and it will give you all relevant threads

To be fair, if you're going to be refer to the auto as a "slushbox" then the manual should be called a "crunchbox".

Haha why not now? It's entirely your decision, but if you have any desire to want to learn stick, I think you should buy the FR-S with a manual.

It's rare to hear about people regretting manual, but you hear stories of people who buy automatic and want to trade for a manual or do a conversion.

Also the clutch pedal on the FR-S is very light. Even bad b2b traffic really isn't an issue. Once you do the clutch-pedal adjustment, starting on hills is pretty easy too.

I couldn't really think of an easier car to learn stick on than this one, especially once you do the clutch-pedal adjustment.

If it was possible to switch into automatic mode from the manual I would. (As asinine as I'm sure that sounds) It's just something that I wouldn't want to have to deal with all the time. I did get to drive a manual version around for a little bit. And yes, it was infinitely better than my dad's F-150 that I made my initial attempts at learning manual on. But that auto transmission with that programming sold me almost immediately.

And if I pick up a manual FR-S in the future, then I get to have the best of both worlds, right?

Got it, sounds like you've thought this through. It's a fun car either way, so can't go wrong

Can I ask how the manual Connects you more with the engine? You have an extra pedal, but the auto shifts faster. Not saying you're wrong, just wondering.

Also, fun is subjective. Both cars are great when driving backroads, but I would hate my car as a DD because the clutch sucks. Granted the car I drove didnt have the adjustment, but it still offers zero feedback which I hated. So to me the auto is more fun overall because I can enjoy it 100% of the time.
