2.0L for the US. I don't think they've started production on them yet, but not sure.

I'm really digging the idea of a sub 2300 lb car in a modern era with 155 HP it's a serious contender for a good drivers car

Tell me of a front or mid-front engine coupé with only two seats that weighs under 1,100 kg and is around 4,000 mm long.

As said above, hopfully that car will be the Fiat/Abarth 124, as both 124 and 124 Spider names have been registrated.

I like the GT86, but the MX-5 has more balanced if not almost perfect layout (transaxle would make it perfect), especially when one is interested in swaps or added FI.

atom, exige, elise, and probably some others. it doesnt matter because, a) i think you should be more concerned with wheelbase if thats what youre after and b)your opinion/preference is not fact.

why do you think you are more qualified to talk about how to improve a car that you know next to nothing about with things like a transaxle over a car company like mazda? i promise you that they know more about balance and "perfect" layouts.

making a car designed to be a convertible into a hardtop doesnt make as big a difference as making a coupe a convertible so i dont think there will be much in the way of performance increase.

The first obvious question is "Are you going to keep your truck?"

Thinking of taking a buddy and some sports gear someplace? Ever think you might take 3 people for a short hop? Take your bicycle someplace? If you are keeping your truck, you will be driving it lots more, and your Miyata is your "for fun" car, and your truck is your "practical" transportation.

The second obvious question is "Since your dad is an expert mechanic, why the hell don't you buy a used Miyata, save a ton of money, learn great skills, get to really know your dad, and make it really cool with all the great aftermarket products they make for Miyatas????" Let me add a few more question marks over here... ????

In no way is an FRS a practical car.. but you can make due. A Miyata is pure fun, but if you already own a truck.. why not?

Nobody's saying there's anything wrong with the roadster, just that there should be the option available for those who want a coupe.

Don't really understand why some people seem to get their feathers ruffled at the idea that others might want to have different options available. It's almost like I suggested that the twins should be available with multiple engine choices...

Both cars are amazing and if i could i would own both.

The thing i love about the miata is that it's so small and i love small cars!

The only reason i never considered buying one was the practicality. Sometimes i carry 2 suitcases and sometimes i need someone need the back. Also i don't like convertibles for everyday driving.

But if i was rich I'd one one!

Do I want Mazda to make a Miata coupe? Sure. But they probably won't if they haven't already. That's what I was implying with my comment above.

In a world catered to auto enthusiasts there would be miata coupes, 3000lbs mustangs and turbo 86s. If Mazda really thought a miata coupe would get a lot of sales they would probably make one.

What we need is a car with the FR-S chassis/looks/dimensions, the front-mid layout and double wishbone suspension of a car like the ND or S2000, and a turbo 4 cylinder with about, oh, I dunno..... 800hp. Amirite? :P

The ND Miata will be awesome - except I don't like convertibles. Too many things have to be perfect for it to be supremely enjoyable imho. A sunny but not too hot day. Other than that, I would have the top up and wish it were a coupe.

Hence, the BRZ is winning that race. I had considered a S2000 but convertible also.

I like the roof over my head thank-you-very-much.
