Man, that is never a fun experience to have right when you get your car. Hope you have another car to drive around in meanwhile, and that the engine swap goes smoothly..

This is why I buy new sports cars, but in the end I normally void the warranty doing things to it myself. I can handle when shit goes wrong and it's my fault. I am sorry you have to deal with someone else's fuck up. On the other hand, I would get all that good stuff in writing to make sure they aren't trying to schmooze you, my friend. Good luck. Keep updating!

He let me know he would reach out to the service manager here at the Toyota / Scion dealer in Jackson to help out on this.

I later talked with the local service manager here in Jackson at Toyota / Scion and he let me know that the service advisor miscommunication the information on the warranty and motor replacement. The service manager attempted to follow the protocol with Toyota on getting an FTS inspection rep from Toyota to come look at the particular engine but due to the wreck information, wrong coolant, and low oil when it came in they (Toyota) denied the request to the dealer.

Now on replacing the engine with a replacement engine with the 200 miles will I fact reinstate the factory warranty on the powertrain for the engine for the remaining 3 and 1/2 years or 40,000 more miles (it goes off odometer miles). He noted that currently all powertrain warranty is still effective except the motor but with the replacement motor being sourced, installed, and done by a Toyota / Scion dealer Toyota will let them re-instate the powertrain warranty on the engine itself.

So in the end I will have powertrain warranty unaffected across the board and re-instated after the work is done by Toyota and I'm getting a practical new engine as well. I really want to give props for the Chevrolet dealer Tom Bannen Chevrolet (now Sierra Chevrolet) for stepping up on this and paying for the engine replacement to make it right and to get my car completely re-instated for its power train warranty.

I'll keep you guys posted but seems like a lot has happened from Friday picking it up through today working all this out.
That's all really good news. Although I feel like Toyota shouldn't have voided the warranty in the first place because of the collision and oil filter. Unless they can PROVE those things caused engine failure, they shouldn't void it.

That's awesome paid for a used car and now you get a brand new engine!

Sucks it had to happen this way but the end result should mean 1,000's is miles of problem free fun, at no more cost to you.

trevorovert - I do have old betsy to drive in the meanwhile at least . I talked with a few friends that work at this dealership and they had nothing but good to say about the tech that will be doing the engine swap, everyone else outside the dealer I've talked with gave me the same name as the go to guy at this dealership so that makes me feel better.

Darkrune - defiantly going to get all this in writing to ensure that. I would love to buy new one day but I'm too cheap and saving $7000+ over a new one for some miles makes sense to me, always has . I usually don't have this kind of a headache on my hands lol.

jeebus - I agree. I believe the biggest thing was the front end collision history coupled with the incorrect coolant factoring heat on the motor and premature wear more than the oil and filter.

Muskokan - yep I can't complain anymore on that point. Also to help the situation since the engine isn't falling under warranty replacement I get to keep the engine block coming out of the car along with anything not used for spare parts . So new engine going in has remaining powertrain warranty and I get the old engine and parts to keep!

Wow can't believe it's been right at 1YR since this originally all happened. I'm happy to report my second engine that came 100 miles on it is still going strong almost 16,000 miles later including 3-4 auto-crosses and a couple of track weekends in Memphis, TN at MIR.

Considering I got to keep my original engine I feel everything worked out for the best though this is not the ideal situation, I've kept up on the forum and have noticed multiple other FR-S's and BRZ's having "rod 4 bearing failure" which honestly seems like a production issue.

I noted to others that my car originally had a history of engine "issues" and visits from Toyota engineers / service techs specifically to look over said engine issues throughout the early life of the car. Car was always serviced at the purchasing dealer along with normal oil changes, etc. which still lead to a pre-mature failure of the rod 4 bearing.

For others that didn't have the situation I did Toyota needs to make these things right and take care of the customers, mine had full oil and has always been checked along with the maintenance and service schedule. Toyota is just trying to find a way to shift blame and not have a recall or "attention" situation on hand.

I also wanted to note to everyone check your engine front covers, the oil pump housing that's stamped. My original engine with all the issues and ultimate failure as others was stamped with "#1" and a eagle / bird on the engine. My current engine that's been issue free these last 16,000 miles so far has a "#2" with no eagle /bird stamped on that same front cover. Revision possibly? Possibly from reviewing engine issues and cases early in release after the initial cars starting rolling off lots? Not sure.

All my friends in my local Auto-x and track groups that have these cars got later 13 / early 14 models and all noted they have the "#2" stamp on their front engine cover, food for thought.

Hopefully some of this information is helpful to others out there .

Thank you!!!!!
With the "all these engines are blowing up" hysteria you are the first to actually come up with a possible method of actually anticipating an issue and even if your theory is wrong at least you puts some facts on the table.
The actual number of failures is really a very small percentage and you may very well have identified the run that is at issue.
