Clutch pedal loud squeak

Same as the clutch; 100% driver dependent.

On my S2k, my throwout bearing was starting to make noise at about 80k. At 116k, the splines on my clutch disk failed, as a result of heat from the throwout bearing, necessitating a clutch replacement. The clutch disk still had about 60% material left (as measured by thickness). You can imagine how many of those miles were track/canyon.

Mine started to squeak back in May I believe. I've done two track days and a lot of hard canyon cruises.

Well, there are 2 kinds of squeaks at play here.

1. Squeak from dry clutch fork pivot. That only squeaks while the pedal is in motion.

2. Squeak from the seized throwout bearing. This is intense and heard as soon as the throwout bearing comes into contact with the pressure plate.

I've experienced throwout bearing seizure in past vehicles. Cascade faliure of the pressure plate occurs almost immediately after. If you don't know how to drive without using the clutch. Park it and call a tow truck.

That's a shit-ton of miles without seizure. I should mention to everyone that I only have firsthand homespun experience and that I'm pretty conservative about getting to it earlier than later.

Drove home tonight and didn't feel a hint of rumble in my left foot. Grrrr...

I have some marine grease and was hoping to grease the clutch fork. What's the best way to go about that? I'm still getting a squeak daily when clutch is applied regardless of engine being on

There are 2 points. One is easy, the other requires pulling the geabox.

Locate the point where the slave actuator rod meets the clutch fork.

Have a little grain-of-rice sized dab of grease ready on your thumb.

With the same hand carrying the grease, pull the clutch fork forward, collapsing the slave actuator a little bit.

Then, while holding the rod with the other hand, squish that little dab of grease into the mating receptacle and let the rod seat itself back in.


If that doesn't do the trick, it's time to drop the tranny.

Make sure it's high temp grease.

I'm just a guy who has had nothing but bad experiences whenever I've turned anything over to someone else. Be it repair, installation, construction, anything, my satisfaction rate is exactly 0%.

This thread seems more active in the summer time. Now that I'm out of warranty feel like this is just a ticking time bomb. I've only had the noise come back on very hot and humid days. Will keep an eye on it as the temps decrease
