Relax a little, and have some faith in your dealer.

Thankfully that event at Gillette is happening. I signed up to test drive the FR-S, too. I'm really nervous about buying a car that I plan on keeping for the next 5-10 years without driving it first. The zillion positive reviews sure help, but still...

Hopefully I'll have 1000 miles on my BRZ by then

Something like this is your best bet. I signed up as well, although I think the Boston one is sold out now. But there is always a new city that they are going to.

You can test drive before buying of course and you can back out last minute. Deposit is completely refundable from my dealer, no questions asked.

I pre-ordered both FR-S and BRZ just in case the FR-S arrives before the brz. This way, I can just sign the papers if I like the test drive of the FR-S but leave with a BRZ in the end.
