(Not so) Strange Experience

This happened last night. Pulled away from a red light, fairly rapidly, just accelerating up to the speed limit, honest look in my rear-view mirror, and there's a set of headlights approaching quite rapidly. I'm still just doing around the speed limit. "Here we go!", I think to myself, expecting the car to blow past me. Instead, it sits right behind me.

I get to the next red light, and the car behind me pulls up in the left-turn lane beside me. I'm still looking ahead, but hear a knocking sound, and then the horn from the car next to me. I turn to see what's up, and the guy in the passenger seat is gesturing for me to wind the window down. I oblige, and he's grinning from ear to ear. "Hey, what kind of car is that?", he shouts! "Subaru BRZ", I reply. "It looks really cool!", he says. "Thanks!"

Still fairly amazed at the reactions!

I've had people ask me to roll my window down in heavy traffic to discuss AWD/turbo/cylinder questions.

NO, no...., and about 0.5L less than the new camry, or 0.2 L more than a Prius.

I had my dog with me the other day...and a van full of ghetto Mexicans (I'm Hispanic myself so I can say that!) pulled up next to me and were yelling to put my window down. I was thinking "Cool, another car compliment."
Nope...they yelled "your bitch is fine!!!" While pointing at my dog...and then drove off.
I was so confused!

I had one time where a guy gave me a thumbs up and rolled our windows down to talk. He was in a WRX, his looked incredibly mean.. Not sure if it was his or his girl because she was driving but he said nice car, how do you like the FRS, I corrected him saying it's a BRZ but it's the same thing. I didn't wanna sound like a snob but just wanted people to know since a lot are unclear the difference between FRS and BRZ and thinks one copied the other or why do they have similar bodies, etc. But we talked a bit and unfortunately it turned green and the end of a good conversations. I really like this car, love the looks.

I actually had a Police officer do this to me a long time ago, then a middle aged guy in a truck rolled his window down just to give me a thumbs up just a couple weeks ago. All compliments are welcome

agreed. The attention this car gets is actually pretty cool. Unfortunately for myself, the vast majority of times I've been approached about how "cool" the car looks have been from old middle aged dudes who are in their mid-life crisis.

I'm glad I drive to work at night, nobody tried to talk to me.

Why is this an issue? It's always good to have car enthusiasts.

Just because they're not young doesn't mean they can't enjoy a good car.

You're right, not really an issue at all. In fact, I've had some fruitful conversations with the folks that approached me

But I just think it'd be nice with some variety. Perhaps younger generation folks that really admire and aspire, maybe even some chicks :P... rather than the older generation guys that approach me, and afterwards offer to show me their Model S, Stingray, or Cayman S leaving me the one who yearns.

Grateful for the attention and fellow enthusiasts. I'm just being undeservingly picky.

I agree. I still get "wowness" from other drivers.

Last week, I was pulling out a parking lot and this guy in a Cooper S, all blacked out, rolls his window and in amazement "I can't believe Subaru made that! That this is awesome. It looks niiiiice".

Serious, he let his "nice" roll out. I might be regretting about the possibility of selling it for a more powerful subie....We'll see.

The experience that I documented in the OP was the most blatant that I've experienced, but there have been plenty of others. Over the weekend, I was sat at the bar of an ale-vending establishment, and overheard a couple of lads talking favorably about the BRZ parked outside, which just happened to be mine.

Of the cars that I have owned, the BRZ has attracted the most attention, and thankfully, so far... (touches something wooden) all been positive.
