He's in San Diego correct? If so I only live 99 miles from there lol. Not a bad drive at all for a good reliable tune. Only other place close to me is Evasive Motorsports. Don't know if anybody has any experience with them or not. Anybody have any pricing on a tune? An E85 station just opened up 20 miles away from my house right next to my work which is 1 of 2 within a 25 mile radius that I know of. I might do a flex fuel kit and get a tune for 91 and E85

Thanks for the info guys

custom tune is about $700 from Bill. Once you meet bill you will not want to go anywhere else to tune. Depending on the FI kit you buy he might have a e-tune you can buy which runs about $300. If the shop have the cable all you need is the license and the tune. this can save you $300-400

Anything against the FA20club flex fuel kit? Id rather stay away from the Visconti kit. I don't really want my car catching on fire before I can beat on it and its a little pricey

I already have the ecutek cable and license, I would only need an updated tune and a dyno if my Nameless header ever ships out

Two things.

One, the Visconti kit is extremely easy to install, and the only thing for extra precauotin is to build your own fuel lines (cost me $38 total for them fittings, hoses, clamps).

Second, Visconti has now a revised kit that does hoses differently.

I bought a used JV kit and it was one of the best purchases for this car.

Likewise, people bend over backwards to justify the greatness of their own tuner. When someone's magic gives you 50% more power, of course you love them! Consequently even when you hear somebody say so-and-so tuner is great, it seems like there is a 50% chance that the same person will turn around and tell you how their tuner screwed up their tune in the past and could have caused serious damage, but then everything turned out fine so it's all fine and the tuner is great!

I'm not pointing fingers, it's just maddening trying to gather the information required to make responsible decisions about this kind of stuff.
QFT*100

I'm a tuner myself, and although in my main market (and all of my tunes) I haven't blown an engine (I've only tuned two FR-S's, none of them FI), I see this happen everywhere. Everyone's tuner is an embodied god and everyone else's sucks, even my clients say this.

We usually have SOME responsibility, but sometimes I've had clients jump ship from other tuners and then I've had to do mechanical archaeology (p.s. I'm terrible at wrenching, I just KNOW how stuff works and point them in the right direction), but you can't blame the tuner all the way when he's supposed to look at the keyboard and hope the mechanic did everything right (whoever that may be).

The only ones who "can" be held responsible are the mechanic/tuner combos we have, at least in PR. I don't do any mechanic work myself so I always trust my clients to bring me a good engine, and to maintain it properly.

Yall talking about blowing motors while i'm looking into built short blocks to replace my 100% working engine that's boosted.

Rules of boost.
1. If you don't have the money to pay for a rebuild stay N/a and stick to warranty.
2. Gotta pay to play (please refer to rule one)
3. If you trust a tuner and don't install wide band / boost gauge don't complain when it goes KABOOM. Buy all the necessary equipment.
4. Find a repeatable tuner/shop
5. Put your head between your legs and already kiss your engine good bye.

On that note I have 2k miles on my boosted engine. Multiple issues due to vacuum leaks/exhaust leaks (all fixed now and the car runs like a dream) Drift that bitch all the time. Need an excuse to run more boost on a built engine.

People preach built motors, but I will stay as far away from one until the reliability of longevity of one is proven. Just like our stock motors basically, its a CRAPSHOOT when it comes to a built motor.

Sorry folks but the best engine builders are the machines pumping out the engines for our cars in the factory. There are so many variables people do not realize go into building a motor, and how one small thing can make it all go wrong, which makes you have to tear the motor out, find the problem, and build again.

I don't know where some of you guys come from car wise, but i've been around subarus for 9 years, and granted this is a new platform, there are not many BUILT motors running for long long miles like some might think (and most are now weekend cars that aren't driven everyday). Just because your motor is built does not mean its bullet proof and won't blow up just like a stock motor would.

Now I am going by what i've seen on forums, I'm sure there are built motors out there that have lasted a long while, but my point is that you shouldn't throw all your money down on black when theres a possibility of it coming out red.

So far I've got just over 5000 miles on mine at 510whp, completely stock internals, no engine problems.

I plan on posting every couple thousand, or maybe every 5000 miles that my stock motor lasts.

Yeah, but do you drive it gently or do you rag on it? I always have this fear that one day I'd stab at the throttle and a rod would just let go.
