The brakes will be better... unless you lock up the wheels, and then they're much, much worse. And these things happen. Human beings panic. One day you might not have the time or composure to threshold brake.

And I can see the "fun" in disabling the accessible nannies, but what's the payoff in killing the ABS if you're not racing? Do you enjoy braking at the limit just driving around? Or do you feel that the potential for slightly quicker stops (provided threshold braking) is worth the risk of locking up your wheels in a panic situation?

I guess I just don't see the point.

A better comparison would be, the aids are like training wheels on a bicycle. Sure it might be safer, and you don't think you can ever live without them. But once you remove them, it becomes much more enjoyable.
My point was that there are two points of view and no side is going to convince the other that their point of view is the right one.

You guys do realise that if you do brake too hard and lock a wheel, they'll grip back up as soon as you let off some pedal pressure.

It's like you think that if you get lockup, it's game over.

TL;DR thread

The reason we have these aids is because we have a nanny government that won't mind its own business. People die when they drive. Letting aids control everything so that drivers don't actually learn how to drive anymore is STUPID and a poor method of making roads safer. Fatalities went down, but accidents as %delta how probably increased disproportionately due to all the dumbshits on the road.

I know! I learned to drive on a 1968 Volvo 123 GT. Yet, I am not removing my ABS fuse. I think you made a great point but you need not to force adoption. You provided the benefits and people that disagreed presented their points. I think all of you need to let it go.

Let it go my friend!

You mean like all drivers before ABS? It can only do so much. Pumping the pedal can only do so much... (I lived in Minneapolis for a while)

IMO it's really just down to what your reflexes are trained to do. So if you've always had ABS then disabling it would probably be a bad idea.

Yes, we do. You do realize that you don't get to do that part again, and that you might still be totally screwed, right?

Sure, but can the driver release the pressure on just one wheel, and do it at 10 Hz?

Didnt think so....

The point is still being missed, that the car brakes harder without ABS. Because this car can trigger abs on g-forces.

Go test it yourself if you don't believe me.

Then throw in better brakes and tyres.

Car will still trigger abs at the same g. It doesn't know the car is able to brake much harder now, so it'll engage the abs at the same point regardless.
