Yes, 100%. The one thing you mention resounds in this industry more than anything else "You get what you pay for." Of course there are a few exceptions like Forgestar wheels, where the quality actually is damn good, but not for too expensive, but I've seen so many failures over the last 5-6 years from Raceland that I would never consider them, sell them, recommend them or ever drive a car with those coilovers.

I apologize if anyone doesn't agree with my comments, obviously they're is a budget for all of us, but I would rather consider NOT spending money in this instance rather than going for the 'cheap' route.

@Brody602 I ran racelands on my mkiv gti because in my opinion, it was not a performance car and I was more after aesthetics than performance.

This is a sportscar and so slapping cheap shit onto it doesn't make sense to me. If I were you, I would do some more research on the forums about budget coilovers (i.e. ST, Fortune Auto, etc.)

I wouldn't mind paying anywhere from 800-1600$ for a decent set

In that case I'd budget a little more than 500 bucks on suspension, but that's just me!

Stock ride height might be tough but you could get close with some. Most will top out around a 10 to 15mm drop.

Anyway, if I were you I'd honestly go with stock springs on Bilstein struts (when they're out), some bushings, alignment, maybe swaybars.

Coilovers are not magically better than everything! And actually...stock is a "coil-over"...it's just not height adjustable.

Like others have said Racelands are not a performance upgrade.

Thanks for the input! I'm not budgeting 500$ on coilovers, I was just trying to get everyones opinion on them, I can see myself budgeting aprox. 1600$ for suspension, but more if I have to i think 2k would be my limit though.

I'll be the guy.

Racelands aren't so bad.

I'm talking now, the racelands of the past...Pure crap, but they have gotten better with the build quality.

Recently got to drive a jetta with racelands, it was an improvement over stock, for sure. Less body roll, less understeer. It was stiff but not too stiff, good enough for a DD.

Would ST's be better? Sure? Would a simple spring and strut be good? Sure.

But Racelands...not so bad.

Keep in mind, the guy with the Jetta and racelands also races a Spec Miata with a good set of blistens, i'm pretty sure he knows what he got and he knows what he's aiming for.

don't buy ksports.

duct tape the money to your hands,
cover your clenched money fists in hot wax,
dip your fists into a box of broken glass kick boxer style
and ram your fists up your ass

it will still be a better use of the money than buying ksports.

How many sets have you owned? I had two sets and both sets my rear shocks ended up blowing within months, not even at a low ride height.

I agree with you so much.

Says he doesn't want to really drop the ride height of his car and yet is asking about coilovers that people buy simply to slam their car and nothing else.

You want improved handling with not much drop.

Springs and shocks.

$1,000 is reasonably priced. That's not very much for coilovers/suspension at all. I have Stance coils. They retail around $1,300. That's not very much. Are they the greatest thing in the world? No. They're entry level coilovers. Do they do exactly what I need them to? Absolutely.

$2,000+ will get you really really nice quality components. Just comes down to how much you want to spend. $500 for "coilovers" is just stupid though.

Edit:

Thought maybe I should give a little more info about myself.

I'm not really looking to drop the car at all, it's currently already pushing it with my location, maybe .5" inches lower at most since my brothers GT-R is about 0.5" lower and he doesn't seem to have any major issues.

I'm an aggressive driver, I like getting the car to slide. So I'm looking for something that can give me good handling for the odd time I might track it, but mainly just for street use, I want something that will last. But nothing absurdly priced for non competitive use like Teins.

So if anyone can recommend a coilover that can maintain stock ride height or not any lower than 0.5" and handle well at a reasonable price, I'm all ears .
I'd recommend ST Coilovers just for that. You can use the stock upper mounts with these and they'd be just what you're looking for. Unless you plan on tracking or racing it. Then, I'd recommend Fortune 500 coilovers as these are a little better for the money. Both of these Coilovers are great for the money.
