The custom maps alone make EcuTek worth every cent and in regard to HPTuners, (Which I also have) it is pretty hard to compare EcuTek to it. The things EcuTek can do on this platform outperform HPT on many levels with several of its platform vehicles. Personally I think HPT and EcuTek are two totally different animals in the way they operate. HPT is incredibly handicapped on MANY of the applications it can access leaving A LOT to be desired. Some vehicles are much better than others (LSx ECUs for instance) with HPT so really it comes down to what you are tuning with HPT and what its capability actually are as they are not uniform across the board with HPT. I like em both so I am not knocking HPT but just noting that they are very different.

Back on topic..... The money spent to get the advanced features is in many ways priceless depending upon what your goals are with this platform. As said before people pay thousands to have some of these capabilities with a standalone and we are lucky enough to be able to do it with all existing hardware (ECU). Again though comparing uber awesome standalones become an apples to oranges argument as well.

I do agree the support outside of LSx is not as great although the rumors are that will change on the new 5.0 Side of the house. But while the layout is different the logging, cost and ability are my main points. As you can see from my Signature I am using it on an LSx Vehicle and its the reason I keep looking for many features in EcuTek. I am spoiled by the VCM Scanner and its logging abilities.
However buying into to HP Tuners Pro at less than 700 and then being able to tune 5 cars right off the bat or buy the license to a complete year/generation is really nice. Esp. when further credits cost 49.99 a pop for other vehicles.

Even if the compare feature we get as Pro/Race users is just a list of "These tables are different", much like RomRaider that would be enough. I can completely understand the idea of needing to justify why shops need to pay more, they get more to work with.

However as for the table logging... well if the community figures out how to get tables another way like using BRZEdit then that solves the problem and I would honestly have to say that is everything I really want.

I hope this happens and if a developer popped up and said "I can make it work if you guys are willing to donate X Amount" I would be in for that.

To be frank (And even though this is ECUtek's thread), I really hope RR gets even more definitions and better control over boosted motors so that things like overboost fuel-cut can be incorporated into an OpenSource tune.

I hope they all move along well just because its nice to have so many options. Right now EcuTek is in the lead but the other options are close and thinking about it they have made a lot of progress.

Its nice having so many options and what the cars are about 2 years old? That is something that I hope means there is a healthy future ahead for the FRS/BRZ.

Exactly, options and competition are great for us as owners as we get tons of competition and innovation as each vendor pushes to capture the imagination of the market.

i don't think we'll see anyone else with custom maps (or similar functionality) any time soon. they may solve the individual problems one at a time, but solving a set of problems and creating tools to allow end users to solve their own problems are two very different things in terms of development time and effort. i applaud there effort (i'm as big a supporter of, and contributor to open source projects as you'll ever find), but i wouldn't exactly say they're closing in on it.

that said i certainly hope the competition causes everyone to up their game. it's all good for us .

The problem is, to implement custom maps, you need to rewrite logic to get the computer to change what table it references. At least that is how I think it works based on my understanding of the system (which to be honest, I haven't really paid much attention to).

I was focusing more on Logging Abilities and Compare features.

Custom Tables is something you are absolutely correct about but as the saying goes, give college students enough time and they can set anything on fire.
No wait now I lost my train of thought....

Think of it more as new tables with definable inputs and output rather than modifying existing ones.

I am actually thinking right now... how the hell do I get my EcuTek tune to reload when it claims it only has a partial tune....
