I'm doing it mostly to reduce temps in the engine compartment. The stock headers have quite a bit of heat shielding on them, so I'm just trying to keep it similar. I plan on taking temps in there with a temp gun with the stock header in place before getting my headers coated.

I am going to coat my headers (once they get here) for the same reason as Big.

I want to keep the engine bay temps as close to the temperatures w/ the stock manifold as possible.

Hopefully it will prolonge the life of all the sensitive stuff in the engine bay.

So what are your plans for the cat? I was thinking of using something like this and making my own with some SS stand-offs and securing with SS bands.

The reason why coaters leave the cat uncoated is because any sort of coating or heat wrap over a cat would have a detrimental effect on its lifespan. Therefore, I doubt that he'll be wrapping his.

Right, that's why I wasn't planning on wrapping the cat, but just covering it, with about 1" air gap between the cat and the heat shield, hence the stand-offs.

Oh, I see. Well, it's definitely an interesting concept. Curious to see how that holds up in the long run.

I use that heat shield material on My Ferrari F355 . It is placed below the headers and directly above the CV Joint boot on the car. I went through 3 CV joint boots in 2 year until I placed the extra shielding in place. Stood up well for the past year or so. Note the F355 headers are also ceramic coated.
