I'm assuming because you did an "unauthorized account use claim"?
Wouldn't it fall under a different category?

Correct. Paid via my bank account. Thankfully it was only a $50 deposit.

Did you make the payment as gift? Is there a difference in paying via bank account vs credit card? (other than being able to dispute with CC company also)

Since it was gifted, that's correct.

Regulation E does state that it covers merchants who promised a refund but have not issued it, however it doesn't cover goods not received. Guess it's time to contact the bank

Everyone makes mistakes. You could have gotten the same point across by just saying "next time don't gift someone you don't know." Optionally you could have added "good luck resolving it through your bank" and "it'd be a shame if the OP gets to keep any money from this transaction."

Yeh, true theres enough arses here, If you have someone ask you to gift to save them on the 3% tell them youll send the cost plus 3% on top...its insurance.

That's what I usually do. Sometimes I'll gift anyways if it's a long standing member of a community though.. it's a risk I take depending on the situation but generally I don't do so.
