I'd like to give an update on MY noises. Last winter I had some popping noise on very cold morning starts, backfire type noise coming from the engine area and not exhaust. It was only in very cold temps (-15 and under), never did anything / went to the dealer about it.

However, this winter #2 has been extremely cold, and I never hear that noise anymore. The thing fixed itself.

I had some popping of this type last winter. This winter I've heard pops on startup maybe twice.

Our posts next winter: engine gave up the ghost LOL.

The stock setup is a cold air intake... yes they use them and no they don't "cause problems" in cold weather (this was only true back on carbed engines)

Thanks for letting me know I'm not going insane!!

K&N is less of a cold air intake than the stock setup.

Most cars do stuff like this on a cold startup, it's completely normal and there are various reasons for it. If it doesn't go away once it's warmed up, then you have a major issue.

I don't think they even checked but it hasn't happened again and it has been colder since it first happened. My biggest concern is that they dented my fenders when they were replacing the leaking cam cover
