The sound change had no influence on buying an intake for me. It was simply to try and give the car a little more power. If you dont have thousands to drop on a turbo or s/c, anything helps for additional hp & t/q gains.

I tried The K&N oiled drop in. I didn't feel any much of a performance gain. Then after installing the Greddy intake without the snorkel. I felt a performance gain. No numbers but I feel a gain. Greddy recommended to take the snorkel off. I wanted to leave the snorkel on but I removed it. It was a pain to remove, but if I wanted to get their claim of "HP: upto 9*hp increase, 2-3 peak and TRQ: upto 10*ft-lbs increase, 6-7 peak". The car needs all the boost it can get. I didn't drill a hole for the sound tube but kept the sound tube installed. I left the sound tube so when switching back to stock for smog certification the intake looks completely stock. I'm not sure not having the snorkel will effect smog certification. I don't want to reinstall the snorkel. You can hear the intake so much more than with the sound tube. I have the dry element filter. The K&N filter is oiled and they can contaminate the MAF sensor. I went through that with my Tacoma 4x4 and I had to buy a new MAF sensor even after cleaning with alcohol. No more oiled filters.
Overall I like my Greddy intake. If someone can make an intake with better performance gains, I might give it a try. Last edited by Grateful Dave; 11-30-2013 at 09:30 PM. |

I was on a dynapack dyno stock airbox and factory filter made a pull 199hp opened air box dropped in a k/n made a pull 200hp thats it. Went to Airaid bolted on a cold air intake system while on their Mustang dyno picked up 4 hp they work.

Hey I just wanted to answer the OPs question as this is info we obtained while testing intakes. I would STRONGLY suggest taking the time to remove the OEM snorkel, as the car runs extremely lean with it equipped.
Greddy, No Snorkel ![]() Greddy, OEM Snorkel ![]() Greddy Before and After Snorkel ![]() So you can see the results are consistent, and are not favorable with the OEM snorkel, so I'd remove it. Sorry I saw this thread so late! Chase Engineering |

Intakes are a waste of money. Just get a drop in filter and a intake tube that deletes the stupid noise generator.

I got a grimmspeed intake for $200, factoring in the group buy price and the money I got from selling the stock box. $200 is nothing. People spend 1k+ on catbacks. To each their own brotha... that's the beauty of it all

I removed the stock snorkel when I installed my Takeda V2 (Same design as the Greddy).
Only because the instructions told me to. You don't have to remove the front bar to remove the snorkel BTW. I simply unbolted the top of the bar, removed the thin bolt plate and then had a buddy bend the top of the bar back slightly while I snaked my hand in with a socket and undid the three bolts underneath. Then you just pull the snorkel out of the space made by bending the top of the bar back. Bending the bar doesn't damage it at all, it's meant to flex. |
