It doesn't look too bad that it would affect driving. I think it would balance out fine. Sucks that it is new though!!

Seen a few threads here and other sites where powder coating created similar "waves" which yours appears to be over a bend/dent per say. Sucks but I think your SOL here.

If it was the heat of the powdercoat oven that did that, doesn't that sort of imply that they fucked up the OEM heat treatment on all four wheels? Giving the bennie of doubt to the OEM, it doesn't say much about the QA process of the coaters. All four of those wheels have been compromised.

Wouldn't your powdercoater be subjected to having to look at the wheel from multiple angles and looking at the wheel closely before or during the process?
I'd imagine if they existed before the powdercoating, that they would've (or should've) spotted the defect and brought it up with you?

Why would the powdercoater have continued with the job once he noticed? And how the hell would even an amateur not notice?

Since you admit you did not check the condition prior to dropping them off, I think the most logical and fair solution is for them to not charge you the cost of coating the bent wheels, but do charge you on the good ones.

If they didn't bend it themselves, they surely screwed up by coating it anyway, since you now have to get the replacement coated too(at additional cost). So, that's why you don't pay for the bent wheel coat.

The cost/effort of getting the wheel replaced(likely by the seller of wheel), is on you since you didn't check earlier. Any outcome better than that is just bonus for you.

The guy who mentions the coating process possibly causing the damage would place the blame entirely on the coater of course. Investigate this further, or take my suggestion of the split.

It is not the powdercoaters job to inspect the wheels before coating. Furthermore, I would expect damage to more than one wheel if the oven temp was too high.

Inspect your other 3 wheels closely, let all parties know about the issue and see if they'll work with you on a replacement wheel and setup costs for coating.

Since when does someone working on a part not do a prep/inspection process? Yes, ultimately it is the customer's responsibility but when they got 4, fresh from shipping and still in the box, wheels you hope that the man coating them would notice any abnormalities.

For this reason I think he should try to have them coat his next wheel only at cost, if the coater were more cautious that wheel wouldnt have been coated. I would say I have no reason to believe(because I wasnt being diligent and didnt take pictures) any were defective from the manuf so I assume, without proof, that it could have been the coater afterall. Dont you think a top-notch coater would apologize for this oversight and try to make good?

1. Can the damaged rim be repaired? If so ... Repair it and ask the powdercoaters to give you a deal on the new powdercoating.

2. If not repairable: ask the rim company if they will give you a discount on a new rim along with a discount from the powdercoaters.

As previously stated .... Not sure anyone is going to take responsibility here since rims were modified. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

Agreed. I feel bad for the OP, but as someone who has worked in supplier quality for the last 6 years, and has powdercoaters on my list, it is the customer's responsibility.

Is that like how the tire installer should've noticed the dent before mounting the tire?

I deal with this stuff every day, as the customer, and I cannot blame the powerdcoater if they paint over something that may have been given to them that way. The coater probably should've caught it after coating, where I would expect their inspection to be, but not before. Their emphasis is going to be on adhesion and coverage.

Just my opinion, of course.

Please name the businesses who feel that QA is not part of their job so that I may avoid them in the future.
