No doubt the Mustang is a faster car. With enough rubber and engine, even pigs can fly. As joyous a car? Not so much.

http://fastestlaps.com/laptimes/4fb489c64d2bc.html Your video did nothing other than show Matt Farah thinks the Ecoboost Stang is for 16 year olds, is better than the older rental Mustangs and has a hood that flaps around. His own words. So let's hear what the same Matt Farah has to say about the BRZ? [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLP-HCcX9as"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLP-HCcX9as[/ame] Hmm...impressions sound completely different than his drive of the $36K Ecoboost. Listen to the cars named at 2:10 here. Audi R8 V10, Ferrari 458 and Dodge Viper ACR. I didn't hear "Mustang" mentioned. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKXzDhGhoEg"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKXzDhGhoEg[/ame] If you care about straightline numbers, go check out the 86's listed on the Corvette thread. Which is where a Mustang fan that wants to go fast on the track should be anyway. ![]() So how much money do you have to spend to get a Mustang to drive like an 86 and do what it can do? There isn't enough. You can make an 86 do whatever a Mustang can do, you can't make a Mustang do what an 86 can do. ![]() So my point was, the 86 is a drivers car. So is the Miata, Corvette and some others. The Mustang is not and never will be until it actually goes back to being a ponycar instead of a muscle car. Get a Camaro if you like fat chicks. So yeah, wrong forum in my opinion. |

Well it wasn't an insult, just an obvious observation. It seems that you'd prefer to post actual real insults yourself so congrats on the double standard. That's the nice term for it by the way, not an insult.

Get a mustang to do what an 86 can do?
OK.... Get a foxbody 5.0 for 5k, the maximum motorsports suspension package for ~2.5k, and bam, third best handling car of all time in motortrend's slalom and skidpad tests. And that was with the stock 225hp 5.0. You can make nearly anything do nearly anything with enough time and money. Plus it's not fair for the average Joe for you to compare an 86 that's nodded out the @$$ to a stock car. Most people like reliability. How many motors has Crawford nerfed building this car? I seem to remember reading it was at least one or two. I'm all for FI, But you can't compare super modded to bone stock and call it fair. But the answer to your question about how much money to make a(n old beater) stang do what an 86 can is 2.5k Not that it still isn't a numb boat. |

So much stupid in here.
I work with/around/about Mustangs every day, it's my job. The Mustang is a pretty damn great all around car for the money, if what you want is access to cheap speed a performance pack mustang is the way to go. End of the discussion, now that the Mustang features a suspension from this century it's even more so. However, I don't own one, and while I'd love a guards green ecoboost I have no desire to ditch my BRZ to get one. Not because it's not faster, it is. Simply because the 86 is a drivers car, it is light, agile and fits like a glove. There is hardly a better car for the task of driving for anywhere near the price on the new car market save the miata. It is fast enough to hit lose your license speeds on any road you want and you're having a blast while you do it. What more did/do I need? I don't. I want a fun car first, not necessarily fast, the speed is incidental. In short, drive both and buy the one that suits you. If I had the money I wouldn't mind having both. But if I'm forced to choose than I'd rather my BRZ, supercharged if I can, but even N/A. The BRZ can be just as fast as the mustang on track (with modification of course) but the new mustang is never going to be small nor will it lose 800 pounds. That's my particularly easthetic but to say either is "better" is about as high school as it gets. If you want to distill it down to the limits... By the numbers stock for stock the mustang is a better car. Given flaming barrels of money to throw at both the 86 will be the better car simply due to it's lighter weight and lower COG, power is fairly simple to add in however weight and chassis balance is far more difficult to sort. Neither of these equations allow for preference or feel. Despite the similiarities (price, coupe, 2+2 and RWD) they are still very different cars to appeal to two very different styles/wants. |
