In ascending order : A few bucks for plasti dipping (black) my wheels which came out fantastic. A few bucks to cap the sound tube, again fantastic. $40 fumoto valve ? $80 to get my back glass tinted, meh. $130 to get center console knee pads, don't bother. $230 for the OEM armrest, wow best money spent. And the priciest is opti-guarding which the jury is still out on. Oh, an $45 on a k/n filter purely as a placebo.
I don't anticipate throwing any more $ at this DD until I'm forced to when the time comes, which would be better rubber. I'm literally sideways in spirited driving.

People that say clear bra, I've always thought of it also but at the price it costs to cover the whole front side up you'll be better off getting new paint later down the line with that money. That's my opinion though.

Mods can prevent the warranty from being honored for certain repairs though. If you toss on a turbocharger and your transmission breaks, they can easily claim that it was a result of the turbocharger. Now, in terms of finding mods that can remain undetectable just to be safe, a drop-in Air filter and Open Flash Tablet are still the best two. The filter is unnoticeable unless they have to take apart your airbox for something, and if you're really paranoid, it only takes about 5 minutes to swap back to the stock air filter (or less). Unless the dealer is plugging into your car to check your ECU, they should have no idea that you have a tune. However, if you want to be safe, you can flash your ECU back to the stock map, and the dealer will never know you changed it. It takes about 5 minutes to flash the ECU. Exhaust is completely out of the question if you want to remain undetected. But new wheels + stickier tires won't (or shouldn't, unless they can find that they were installed improperly and were directly or indirectly at fault for whatever issue that you are bringing your car in for repairs for while under warranty). |

However, this was all done without tuning the car afterwards. Some of the CAI's may produce more than others after a tune; that I do not know. What I do know is that if some do tune better than others, we're still only talking about couple of whp difference, if any difference at all. A filter for 5.5whp at $40 is much more cost efficient than a CAI that costs $400 for similiar gains, in my opinion. The other thing to keep in mind is how you plan on doing future mods. I'm leaning towards going with an electric supercharger next year and using that until my warranty expires, at which point I want to go turbocharged. A CAI is not compatible with the electric supercharger, and is not compatible with most turbo kits... whereas a drop-in is compatible with the ECS, and I'm not worried about losing out on my $40 investment (drop-in) when I do go turbocharged. EDIT: Oh yea, I did a few hours of reading on the Electric Supercharger (ECS) thread yesterday and today, and it looks like a fantastic bang for the buck, easy (and quick) to install and uninstall mod. 5 minutes to swap back to stock for dealer visits, 20 minutes to re-install afterwards. Not as heavy duty as a turbo in terms of peak gains, but if the cost is around $1,500 for 50whp/50wtq with +80wtq in our torque dip... yea, I'd do that

I think eventually I might be interested in turbo or supercharger but that is WAYY down the line and not anytime soon. |
