Sometimes I would think what if the GT86 is a mid engine car with two or four more cylinders...

I prefer to deal with Toyota. It's way more convenient to for service locations (for me), and I like the Scion esthetic details better. If I cared about the extra features I would have bought them, but thanks.
I don't see much, if any, trash-talking in this thread. None of that juvenile "The BRZ mustache looks stupid" or "The car has a Subaru motor and was built in a Subaru plant, you should buy the original" or "Scion sucks, it should have been a Toyota in NA" flaming/fanboyism.

Whenever a thread about features missing from the triplets pops up, you can bet that 50% of the things people are ranting about are either available as an option, or as an inexpensive/easy aftermarket addition. I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets kinda tired of the endless "I'm going to complain that my FR-S or BRZ Premium didn't have as many features and amenities as the BRZ Limited does" discussions (which are a whole lot more common than "I'm going to complain that my BRZ Limited was more expensive than a FR-S" whining). Everyone needs to stop whining that they don't have a BRZ Limited. You could have bought one, but you didn't decide the features were worth it, so you didn't. End of story. I'm sure we'd all be happy (except maybe for the dealerships represented on the forum) if the BRZ Limited had a $24.5k MSRP (or whatever the FR-S base price is), or if you could get every BRZ Limited amenity added to the FR-S for free.

250 lbs. weight reduction. For the consumer, it's very hard to do without sacrificing comfort/convenience features, but for a manufacturer, not impossible, just expensive. Toyota reportedly was able to easily cut 200+ lbs. from the GT86 chassis before fitting in their hybrid powertrain. They should just sell the lightened version with the standard FA20.

If the GT86 weighed 2500 lbs. from the factory, it would be nearly perfect.

Its not too hard to get rid of weight without sacrificing comfort and convenience, in fact there is a thread on the board to show how to get rid of weight.

Spare tire (25+lbs), Battery (20+ lbs), Exhaust (including headers can get you 15+lbs), Pulley kits (6+lbs), Wheels (16+lbs), Flywheel and Clutch (10+lbs), etc...

That is about 100lbs right there.

Sure its not cheap but it is possible and none of those sacrifice comfort/convenience.

Yes to a degree, but you're not going to get 250 lbs weight reduction that way.

Spare + tools = 30 lbs
Battery = 20 lbs
Exhaust + header + OP/FP = 30 lbs
Wheels = 20 lbs
Fly + clutch = 10 lbs
Aluminum driveshaft = 10 lbs

Add that up and it's only 120 lbs, not even halfway there.

Sounds like your money would have been better spent on this:

Not that much more expensive if you're willing to go for used and with few amenities.

Then it would be made by Porsche, and called a Cayman.

(Oh wait, I think that already exists...)
