Actually, I've never said that, but I'm going to start. That's once.
Hmm...

I may be wrong, but I think one is safest hitting something head on, ektually, Anthony.

Hit something with sufficient force tail first ... and the seats can rip clear out of their mountings and you and your passenger become dangerous objects flying around the interior, banging heads, teeth, elbows, OUCH!

The seatbelt system does not work in reverse. Neither do the airbags. Sure, the bags will deploy ... but you're no longer THERE. Your carcass is flying around the car interior somewhere else!

And fire may be an issue, despite the safety features, should the fuel tank rupture.

But, if you remain in your tent, you should be safe. Maybe.

Is yours a dangerous accursed desert, or just a regular accursed desert?

First time I've read of 151ft/lb being dangerous

You just made my day

Yep. If they can't handle the 151 ft/lbs from the FT86, then they definitely shouldn't be driving one with double or triple that much.

Yeah, see. It always works, that's why I try to always recommend it. It takes some quick thinking and years of driving experience to do it, so I commend you for your success.

This is a pleasant change. The OP simply and straightforwardly announced that he over-cooked it, ran out of talent, and crashed.

No excuses. @KEL-BRZ took personal responsibility, and he owned it.

I respect that.

We all make mistakes from time to time.

There were no "nonsense stories" of unrestrained wild animals wandering the urban streets and crossing intersections against the light when it wasn't their turn to cross. It invariably happens that avoiding these irresponsible and errant wild animals involves a wild spin causing complete loss of control leading to a very expensive crash costing thousands of dollars in repairs. All at city speeds.

Oh please…

And now I see that we have computers gone rogue, trying to kill the occupants like something from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Witness recent reports of yet other crashes posted elsewhere on these forums. The ECU did it to me!

Oh please…

What will the kids think of next to deflect blame from themselves for getting into a scrap with the Laws of Physics?

Keep it up, kids. Mother Nature is merciless and ruthless.

Kudos to OP. Glad you guys are okay.

Take away more than a severe fright, eh? Learn from this…

And again, "props" to you, @KEL-BRZ, as you youngsters like to say.

Nice rant.

Probably I should have posted my thoughts in a different thread (clearly I inspired your rant at least in part). Me talking about performance at the margin on damp roads isn't all that relevant to this particular accident. From the hard hit, it does seem likely that the OP was headed for off road adventure regardless of rubber. So points conceded. I was merely trying to be sympathetic.

No one is losing control of their car driving it like a Camry (that's directed to Mr Unicorn). Several of us have been surprised by sudden loss of grip when driving medium fast through corners under circumstances that did not seem to merit this. Some of us are fairly experienced drivers...

I've lost the link, but apparently there is a British automag that stumbled on this and freaked out in print about it too.

I was skeptical of these stories, until it happened to me. I'm pretty conservative on the whole, I always leave margin on the table (I'm a sport motorcycle rider who lived to be > 50 and doesn't limp, nuf said) and this was first time in way over a decade that I needed as much as half of it. I was pretty upset / embarrassed and just parked the car for the weekend to think it over.

I've been through crappy underperforming OEM rubber on performance cars and bikes before. Bridgestone dogshit on KZ 1000s, gripless Pirellis on early GTIs, RE92s on early WRXs. All of these vehicles were *transformed* by better rubber and none of that is news to anyone who fooled with those vehicles at the time. The Primacy isn't nearly as bad as any of those and on dry road is benign, predictable and adequate for street use. But it does have this damp road booby trap and it literally only a *trace* of moisture that brings it out.

No blame is being laid. Experience is being shared.

Anyhow, that's my $0.02.
