Can't blame the tires for drivers steering and throttle input errors either.

Well, it's like I always say... if you're going to suddenly unintentionally go flying off the road and into a tree, you might as well do a 180 in between so you can be slammed up against the seat instead of the seatbelt and airbags.

Actually, I've never said that, but I'm going to start. That's once.

I've had two such occurrences myself, originating in maneuvers that "should have been" about 70%, not really even going for it, hence total shock and awe. In my case roads were slightly damp in spots, tires fully warm. My previous performance cars have never had an issue like this.

[...]

This feels like a tire issue to me. My car has the HP Primacies.
This. A turn that I make every morning on my way into work caught me by surprise last week. Apparently, the roads were slightly damp, but you could not really see it physically. I made a left turn going the same speed I typically do (a bit quick), with the nannies on, and the front of the car was facing about 110 degrees instead of 90 degrees in the turn. Nannies kicked in... to late (my opinion) and power (to the wheels) was reduced. If the power had not been reduced, then I probably could have power slide through the turn instead of almost coming to a complete stop and having another car almost clip my back end

Oh well, lesson learned. And I am definitely getting some stickier tires when the OEM wears out. I know the car was made to slide, in a sense, but I would prefer to take more effort than this. But that is just me.

@ the OP: Glad you and the passenger are ok. Like you said. Cars can be replaced, lives can not.

I think you guys need to learn how to drive. I've never had the VSC kick in under normal driving. You can't go around driving beyond your_ability/the_car/the_conditions and then complain the VSC didn't save your ass.

This post isn't directed towards anyone in particular. I've seen quite a few threads and articles so far regarding people losing control of their FT-86's.

I'm not sure how everyone is getting the tail out so easily with the nannies on. Before I started driving around with VSC Sport on, it was incredibly difficult to get the tail end out in dry conditions, requiring me to drive the car recklessly and purposely trying to slide the tail out.

I've read about several people losing control of the vehicle going 20 mph through corners. Really?

Even with VSC Sport, it still requires an effort on my part to kick the tail end out, via extra throttle and sharper steering than necessary for taking the turn. Again, dry conditions.

In wet conditions with the nannies on it gets a little easier, but even then, unless I'm giving the car more throttle during the turn than I should and/or turning sharper than I should for normal/safe driving, I've yet to slide.

With the nannies on, I have gotten the car to power slide on wet pavement, controllable and on purpose, but the nannies usually slow the car down way too much upon exiting the turn (and almost to a full stop on slower turns). Honestly, I feel more comfortable with VSC Sport on in wet conditions because of this.

With VSC Sport on in wet conditions, it is definitely easier to get the tail out. I imagine it's even easier with the nannies off completely. Still, if I'm driving normal/safely, I've yet to slide/skid/etc. Then again, I've yet to turn the nannies off completely (I use VSC Sport). But if you're not experienced with RWD in wet/snowy conditions, why the hell would you disable all of the nannies? Are people stupid, or just naive?

And if people are losing control of the vehicle with the nannies on, with plenty of tread life on their tires, dry or wet, and are claiming that they were driving safely and it was the cars fault, I'm gonna have to call Oh, and after you collect your insurances, please please please, don't go out and buy another RWD sports car... and NEVER get one with more than 151 ft/lbs of torque unless you plan on taking special driving classes first (like HPDE).

/end rant

Nice to see that the nannies still can't defy physics. OP was going WAY too fast for the road conditions. Don't blame his Prius tires.

You don't need a Lambo to spin like that... had the exact same thing happen to me on a 150hp FWD VW (granted it was raining and I had tires with little tread left).

Takeaway: always drive judiciously.

So how much would insurance charge you to buy back the car in that condition?

I'd imagine a considerable amount, looks like the entire front half cut is salvageable for parts. plus a large portion of the interior.

In the OP's province we have state run insurance; it goes to the lot and gets sold in auction. If you want it you buy it in auction. Not so easy or cheap to get back.

And what is it with silver BRZ's in this province?
