If you want the look of an expensive car, the performance of an expensive car, and the luxury of an expensive car you are going to want to buy an expensive car. Choose 2 or spend more money for the 3rd.

a fix to the crickets is apparently coming in the near future, according to toyota motor corp techs (not the guys that work at dealerships, the ones that work at hq in torrence). So they haven't completely ignored the issue...

Hopefully that's true, like I said I was told about the new part number and had to wait a week for it to arrive and I feel that my crickets are worse since the new parts were installed.

However, I can't believe the number of small but very frustrating issues I have been having with the car. I'm not sure of my build date, but I just got the car last May.

Here's my list:

-Rough idle, bogging and stalling.
-Crickets, fixed once, came back within 100km.
-various rattles
-rear deck popping
-clutch throwout bearing noise (I think that's what it is)
-AC issues.

I know some of these problems are very common.. which does not make them acceptable, to the contrary actually, it makes it worst...

I'm not one to complain about every little thing in a car, I understand it's a machine and that it is being put under a huge a mount of stress on a daily basis, let alone in track duty. But in my work, if I presented such a flawed product as final, I would be fired.

I bought a new car, and am absorbing a great amount in depreciation and I don't think it's too much to expect not to have to go to the dealership every month for a new problem, and to get an old problem re-fixed...

I bought with Toyota expecting Toyota reliability.. Had I known, I would've probably gone another route.

Thing is the car is freaking addicting, and I can't imagine giving it away.. and most problems are not noticeable unless I'm stopped and idling, which I do a lot.

I'll give it another chance, send it to the dealer to get it all fixed, and if anything else comes up too soon for my taste, I think I'll have to trade it in.. Also, I would'nt be surprised if they tell me clutch bearing is not covered under warranty, which would make me ''disappointed''.

All this and I'm at less than 10K km. Meanwhile my matrix xrs sits in the driveway at 110K km with nothing going wrong.. and my borther's A3, 130K km *boooooo Audi reliability*.. guess what, nothing either..
I may pick up a 3rd brz for me and wife, I have converted mine to a pretty track oriented build, and may just want one to go do a light build on.

Every rattle, whistle and creek has been pretty easy to solve, power delivery is awesome and once you replace all the crap fluids the design is spot on. It's not a car for those wanting the Toyota experience

It's a Subaru, so a little mechanical aptitude goes a hella long way

I agree with thill 100%. People are comparing this car to the likes of s2000/350z/rx8/even lotus elise! Those cars had a 50k price tag brand new! Your car can easily match all the above(not the lotus im assuming) easily and for 20k less! People complain about so many things..s2000 not enough power...350z too heavy....rx8 eat too much gas and unreliable...lotus not confortable etc.. lets see these people make a car that is fun/reliable/modern/ noise free/practical on a budget? How many is on the market for the same price with no issues? Mine has issues too like the noise from the tranny and such but owning a real ae86 puts things in prospective for me anyways(car has rattle everywhere/ idles funny/rusty but ohh so fun to drive!

One of my all-time favorite cars was my 1990 turbo Eagle Talon TSi AWD. I had a few light bolt ons and upped the boost a little bit and that thing was just a BLAST to drive. On the other hand, the electronics were iffy at best, rear hatch hydraulics shot, couldn't drive with the windows up thanks to exhaust leak, horrible tint job made it impossible to see out of, it broke down and/or overheated more times than I could remember and spent more of its life on a flat bed than on the road. But I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if I found a good condition model today. My girlfriend can drive the smooth, reliable, quiet, comfortable car. I want something fast and fun.

My 86 makes me want to spend endless amounts of money on it lol. Just too fun to drive! Thats why I like the fr-s because it has the same essential ingredients as the 86 but is more modern/rust free (for now)/practical/ and quiet ! I can actually hear my girlfriend talking while i drive now, but that in itself is not always good hahah.

All new cars have problems. Every single one. Don't kid yourself that selling this, losing money, and buying something else is going to make you happy.

I for one am completely tired of all the "OMG my car makes a noise threads" and the pointless bitch about their car... seemz like all the people who bought the car just because it was the cool thing to do are slowly but surely getting weaved out.

See, people assume that's why others bought this car. I knew what I was getting into and definitely did not buy it because it was the "in" thing. Certain things annoy different people. Just because others can stand the rattles doesn't mean some people can tolerate them as much. I followed this car since it first formed as an idea. I definitely did not get it to be "in" and I doubt the OP did also. To assume we got it because we wanted to be cool is just distrespectful. I would love this car if it weren't for my rattles and transmission and axle issues. No matter how much a brand new car is, dealers and companies should take care of the little things through warranty. And if they don't, it turns people away. Maybe more threads are coming up because these cars are starting to have reliability issues after being out for over a year. There are more 86's on the used market each day. Some may want something "newer" to be in. But this is not the first situation I've heard of people being disappointed. It's still $25k. That's a good chunk of change.

S2000 is one of the most reliable automobiles ever built. I think it's a good replacement for people looking for trouble-free ownership of a sports car that can live with a smaller, more hardcore less practical drop-top. A mint condition used one will fetch $25k easily. I have flew across the country to buy 13 year old mint condition used sports cars that gave me trouble-free ownership for another 6 years before age started to show. That was a real Toyota.

So, I say don't get duped into the new car warranty hype. a 4-5 year old used car with less than 30k pampered miles that was better built from the get-go is still more reliable than a brand new car like the 86.

p.s. I've had zero issues with my brz so far. *knock on wood*

I'm wondering if JOSI simply meant that a lot of people who were considering a tC for instance, bought this car thinking it would be of the same "place in life cycle" b/c the manufacturer was the same. Unfortunately since the tC isn't a first year car it doesn't suffer some of the same issues because they've been worked out with dabs of tape and foam. Likewise I've seen people saying they wish they bought a new Civic or Corolla and the same issue is there.

I can't wait to get into the BMW forums and spy on the 4-series rattles and the MB forums and check out the CLA issues. *2 cents*
