The test comes when someone does hard launches with some sticky wide tires. That's when the most torque will be applied to the driveline components.

So far, Full Blown has over 420tq I believe. Tons of dyno runs on it, but no real world application yet.

This transmission should be good for quite a high number. Newer Aisin's are pretty stout. s2k's are able to put 900+whp on stock tranny. S15 S15's are able to do 600+ on theirs just fine like someone mentioned, and those see tons of abuse in japan lol

If you are concerned, have the gears cryo-treated. You'll likely run out of funds before you make enough power to do some damage lol

Very wishful thinking.......this is a 25k car.....none of it is over built.

The cars I mentioned above weren't much higher. Besides that, Aisin designed the transmission. There are only a handful of OEM transmission manufacturers in the world nowadays. They are given parameters and design something to suite the needs. When they see a sports coupe that they know will see track time and spirited driving, they take that into account. In fact, most of the time they take existing, proven designs and modify them to fit the application. Our transmission is no exception to this philosophy.

P.S. driveline stress from hard launches, spirited driving, and track time puts the transmission through greater pressures than bumping the torque by 150ft-lbs. I haven't heard of anyone blowing a tranny yet that wasn't caused by driver error

Yea, I would hope for the gearbox to hold power like the s2000 does. 350tq and still be reliable and strong.

S2k trannys are pretty stout, but not 900whp stout. Most guys running over 500whp have upgraded PPG gears or are going with the Supras V160 swap.

I will eventually go with cryo gears. WRX/STi guys do it often because their boxes are terrible. The local guys that are running some power seems to have theirs hold up pretty well after. Also, it's cheaper than buying aftermarket gears.

Cooling the tranny fluid also does wonders for longevity of parts.

There has been plenty of Aisins that have crapped out in the FT86. These have all been in excess of 300whp cars,...at or beyond the torque limit,.....but don't fool yourself or others that this tranny is something special, its not. A new unit is 4.8k. I'm at 400plus to the wheels. If your going to run slippery narrower tires and exceed design limits it might be ok for awhile. In the mean time I'm considering other options.

must of missed out on the plenty of Aisins that crapped out topic. When less than 5% of people are on the forum, and typically people are pretty vocal about issues in these cars, I have not really encountered big posts/threads about how weak the tranny is. Both AT and MT.

I have heard more issues regarding:
DI failure
rear axle failure with lowered cars

Old thread,....I have since greatly reduced power for this very same issue ,.... it's really quite simple , tranny is rated for 210ftlbs of torque.....run past that number with good traction,...exponentially the failure rate will rise. Not everyone building this car is touting it on this forum , in fact guys really pushing the FA20 stay off. But if you like I could bother to name a few who have actually gone big on power ( not the over inflated Dynos ones) and have blown transmissions......or do research yourself like I have,....as I have skin in the game. My build is to find the optimum power level to make this car a reliable fun HPDE track day car, with out going to the extremes of fender rolling ,... bigger than 255 tires, sequential transmission and going over 300whp. My car is crazy expensive where its at today at 50k over purchase price with go fast parts.....think I'm done for now.
