RICE means "Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement(s)"
That sounds like a backronym to me...

(I'd be willing to bet that's not the real origin of the term, especially given how few of the cosmetic enhancements you see on riced-out cars can really be considered "race inspired")

Sweet car but I think if the carbon fibre kinda flowed through to the back of the car it would look a lot better because currently it just stops.

I say paint the hood white but leave two stripes unpainted such that they line up with the stripes on the roof.

It's not. If I remember correctly, it started back with Japanese motorcycles. They were called rice rockets, and then that went into Japanese cars, and eventually became the term for "tacky modifications." One day someone who had five seconds too many of free time went "Oh RICE is an acronym for 'race inspired cosmetic enhancement!" and it's stuck.

I've also heard tacky mods on German cars be referred to as "kraut." lol But bread, haha, never heard that one before.

I like the Viper if the fitment was spot on. Though I think the fender portion of the clam should be painted, maybe to give a "faux hood" look. Or maybe just a light dusting of paint over the carbon, so it looks white but you can still see the weave, with full carbon left for stripes.

Also, whoever said stripes on a Viper were 90s, that never went out of style and has been an option forever.

Our SRT Viper Sneak Peak Ready for Sema

Guys, I'm not stupid. I know what the term "rice" originally meant. It's a racial stereotype. I DON'T like it. It's negative and brings to light just how irresponsible humans are. I would rather have people think of the acronym RICE as being something just related to a car's cosmetic form (since people can't stop using the original term and it has been engrained into people's minds only to show up through their lack of self-control).

Enough of these racial boundaries. I'm out.

Keep in mind, SEMA is a trade show, and when your product is carbon fiber body panels, letting the people at the show know they are carbon is a plus. The intent is to show off the product, so vendor's will want to sell it, not make people on the internet happy because its painted

I can respect that viewpoint - seriously, it is a very reasonable stance to take. However, if you believe that the term "rice/ricer" is a negative racial stereotype, the solution is NOT to pretend that it originated somewhere else. That fixes nothing. If you truly believe it to be a hurtful stereotype, the solution is NOT TO USE THE TERM AT ALL. Pretending it has a different meaning does absolutely nothing to mitigate the stereotyping, and it also indicates that you think the term is not problematic.

Rear CF piece is awesome. So awesome they should come that way from the factory.

The hood is awesome.

The abrupt transition between the hood and painted bumper/quarter is not. I get it from a marketing standpoint that you want to show off the hood. I would too. It looks awesome. But from a 'finished product' standpoint, if it were my car, I'd get the front bumper in CF too and then do a fade on the body color starting just in front of the top-center of the wheel arches, so that by the time it got to the front quarter contact, it would be body-color.

But that would require a CF bumper, an expensive paint job, and would cover up some of the product, so I get why one wouldn't do it on a show car.

Yeah, the fenders kill it for me. If it was reversed (a black car with white stripes) the fenders would look nice.

2015 Viper Dropped $15,000-$30,000 to boost sales

2015 Dodge Viper Price Dropped $15,000 to Boost Sales - Motor Trend

"Dodge has chopped $15,000 off of the entry price for the 2015 Dodge Viper SRT, in the midst of sluggish sales which it has denied to be cause for concern. Sticker price for the outgoing 2014 SRT Viper was a heady $101,880 (including destination), but the updated 2015 Dodge Viper SRT will enjoy a sizable price drop to $86,990.....In addition to the monumental price cut on new cars at the showroom, existing owners of the current-gen Viper (previously sold as the SRT Viper) will be awarded a $15,000 certificate toward the purchase of a new Viper. When all is said and done, current Gen 5 Viper owners could walk away with a 645-hp supercar for $71,990 -- a discount of nearly a third compared to the car's previous sticker price."

Not sure if current Gen 5 owner can pass the savings down to another owner? That would price a 2015 Viper in the same ballpark as the 2015 Stingray or new Supra?

Well...if they drop another additional 30k...maybe I can convince that I need another Sportscar?

That is cool info though.
