I have a huge appreciation for these cars lately. I think I took notice after all the recent news about the Viper being discontinued and started reading up on the latest ACR models...they are extremely impressive...and for what you are getting also substantially cheaper than a lot of its competitors

German and Japanese cars left behind in the game, I think the main advantage of the domestic cars is the handling department ..new Camaro SS only costs $37k but the performance brings to the table is better than many of those to $70-80k import cars

Ehh, the viper acr always had rdiiculous tires to get its resiculous times. Aren't the current ones some custom v720s with like a utqg of 20? Aren't even Hoosiers utqqg of 40? Not really a "street" tire as driving to get groceries probably heat cycles those tires past retirement.
Those old acr had those Michelin cup sport semi slicks back when most cars were running uhp or mp at best, but now all the manufacturers are cheating with thise cup sports for nurburgring times. Maybe this is the future and next dot legal slicks will be optional equipment so manufacturers can use them to get better times. I guess we really can be the ones to blame. With the shift away from drag racing into time trials and drifting in the younger car enthusiast group the lap time number is probably a super important marketing metric. I wish they would use similar tires so we could actually compare these cars I'll never be able to buy driven by drivers better than I can possibly drive. |

What impresses me about the Viper ACR is not its fast laptimes and high limits, but how easy it apparently is to drive at those limits. Just an example - I heard Dodge designed the rear wing to provide maximum downforce relative to yaw. Took them 300 hrs in a windtunnel for the rear wing alone.

It's getting harder to truly differentiate JDM to anything nowadays. Nowadays its the culture in the car enthusiast that keeps labels like that alive.
Anyway, i've never liked Vipers. Ugly.... gimme a Gran Torino instead. This one is really cool though!~ Holy cr@p and it's like 90k! Faster than GTR?

Somewhere I read that the bespoke tires are rated 200. Imagine what it could do with Primacys.
The Centurions over on the big Z06/Z07 board became a "bit" heated over this, eventually rolled over and started spouting absurdities like "but it's nowhere near as comfortable...no automatic...no convertible...lousy daily driver... too much downforce slows it down", etc. Yet none of them mentioned the recognized issue with LS4 engines grenading unless the owner is lucky enough to enter limp-home mode after 2-3 hot laps. Chevy's excuse is that the typical Z06 demographic won't be tracking the car anyway. They have a point. This ACR will be highly collectible. I've read only 200 will be produced before all Viper production stops. I imagine all are sold out now and will be popping up on Mecum soon. |
