From what I have seen in my own car, the oil pump isn't variable speed. Just from memory, I typically see about 1 bar per 1000 psi:
~10psi at idle (600-700 rpm) ~1 bar at 1000 rpm ~2 bar at 2000 rpm ~3 bar at 3000 rpm I haven't paid too much attention to the oil pressure at higher rpm. This is using Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 at ~200f. |

Whoa nice destroyed engine..but there's no relation to oil pressure and engine damage at this point from that one example.

Seems like Dave is not losing pressure at the dip either. Although he state that oil pressure start dropping once past 7000rpms according to his post.

Including WOT, full boost, partial throttle, very light throttle, cruising. ALL of the time, the oil pressure graph NEVER drops one PSI while increasing RPM. It looks exactly as expected a line continuously going up. I will post up pics when I trim it as the whole log was 18 minutes. Again, it might be true its variable drive, BUT it does not appear to be loosing pressure along any RPM range. EDIT: I'm using Motul 8100 0w-30 Oil.

Maybe on a high end (LFA type) car they'd do that sort of thing but lets face it, our FR-S is a budget car and doesn't have very many luxuries.

![]() As far as temps, I never saw over ~235 with the cooler at Sebring in hot weather, where others locally without the cooler are hitting 290-300+.

![]() I don't do high RPMs until it's warm of course, but temps varied a few degrees during that testing which was on the interstate with the cooler installed. It's extremely repeatable though regardless of temp (ie warm or hot). That was Mobil 1 0w-20 I believe. Currently it has Redline in it. Right after that mobil 1 testing I switched to Xw-30 Royal Purple. Pressure stays good all the way. 20 weight is good for fuel economy though.
