It was wild that "stock" cars were on R-Comps before!

Keep up with the times for Nationals (going on right now) here: http://sololive.scca.com/

That way we can all watch RTR and see who is winning on what tires. Hankooks looked decent for STX but on camber challenge cars in Stock, I think the Rivals are going to take it. We'll see!

Amen.

Got a couple MR2's in CStock on Hoosiers and I'm consistently beating them with my FR-S on Rivals.

Clarification, Street class will be 140 treadwear next year and 200 treadwear the year after. Unless SEB changed that too...

I ran 245/40/17 A6s but sold mine a couple months ago and bought some Rivals. Ed Jones (edj) on here was using the same tires but switched to street tires for nationals since the BRZ/FRS isn't competitive with the current CS cars and he had a better chance in RTR.

Good catch on the tire rule. At nationals the winning RX8 in STX used two sets of shaved 235/40/17 Toyo R1Rs, one for each day. Theoretically that's probably the fastest tire for the BRZ/FRS, but they only last 15-20 runs, maybe a little longer on the twins. The 195 size of those tires is explicitly banned my hope is they do the same with the 235/40/17. He probably spent $1600+ for tires to run at one event which is crazy IMHO but perfectly legal. R1R is still 140, the other fast tires are all 200 now.

and as it turned out i didn't have much of a chance in RTR either...

if anybody is interested, I have 4 used 245/40R17 Hoosier A6 tires for sale (36 runs).
plus i have 1 brand new sticker A6 in the same size for sale also. PM me for details.

And this is why the thought that 200tw street tires solve the tire expense riddle at a national level is assinine

Next year I'm going to pull a Braun and run a fresh set of shaved Toyos for every run at nationals

Just curious, but why should the 235/40/17 size be banned? Gearing advantage?

I was wondering the same. The 195 was banned because there is a difference in compound depths. I believe that all sizes other than the 195 have the soft compound go down to about 3/32nds and then a harder compound after 3/32nds. The 195s have the soft compound all the way through the tread so they can be shaved while the other sizes can't.

Isn't that always the case on motorsports?

I thought the same too.

It was found last week at Nationals(obviously others knew it before, but it's now more commonly known) that the 235/40/17 R1R is akin to the 195/50/15 (aka cheater street tire).

As for tires, The Rivals just weren't competitive at Nats (the surface didn't mesh will). RS3s blazing hot and ZIIs stone cold were the tickets.

Other than these cheater tires, you won't see much shaving I feel. The RS3 is best after 1-2 event break in. ZIIs as well. Relatively consistent until down to ~3/32 left. Though we may see the field change as new tires are developed specifically for the rules
