Next time you're in stop and go traffic look in the breakdown area of the road and the endge of the asphalt, you'll see all sorts of crazy stuff. One time I was stopped on the highway and there was a perfectly good shovel so I threw on the e-brake and tossed it in the trunk...I'd hate to be behind a truck that loses a shovel...that's gonna leave a mark.

Were you by any chance drifting in a big emtpy parking lot where tractor trailers overnight or a hotdog truck parks during lunch for service people to stop at? Parking lots are a treasure trove of nasty tire hazards.

What a weird thread.... Interesting though!

Could be worse..

I had some piece of metal thrown up & back along the side of my car after bashing around in the front passenger wheel well of my Camaro... It ripped up the side of the car from the front to the back wheel well, and tore up the insides of both wells..
I think there was damage to both quarter panels, door, and side skirts.

Think windshield got cracked twice as well from highway debree. Trucks throwing rocks.

And one time, I don't know what it was.... but was cruising with the windows down on the highway, and I got pelted right in the face by something solid.... bounced off before I had a chance to figure out what it was. It hurt though.

I did not have good luck with that car.

Anyway, sounds like some kind of gremlin with a fetish for screwing with 86's is having it's way with your plastic flap thingy's !

Would be interesting to know if that flap was actually placed there for that reason, or if that is just coincidentally catching these objects.

probably a coincidence, but i'm gonna assume its a little bit of both :happy0180:

I had a weird scraping noise and feeling a while back that started after I parked somewhere. It was so bad I thought somehow my exhaust system had dropped down and was scraping the road or something was stuck in the brakes. Pulled over and checked the exhaust and brakes - everything looked fine. Scratched my head and kept looking. Finally found a piece of wire rod jammed into that flap in front of the rear wheels that was going forwards into the ground. pulled it out and the noise was gone... it's amazing how much noise and feel transmits to the chassis from a tiny stiff wire rod jammed in that plastic flap.

Well, happened to me this morning, with a large chunk of wood. Will post pics later although the wood is gone as I angrily threw it over the wall at the gas station..
