Those are some crazy prices... I did just visit some family in Cambodia and they told me cars are a lot more over there. However, income range is quite drastic and due to tax, some occupations there make more than in the US.

Holy shit...no other words really come to mind with this scenario. I felt bad initially living in Canada and paying about 1-2k more than the U.S. prices but getting my FR-S for just a hair under 30 on the road now makes it feel like a bargain. I really feel for you guys, I felt pain when it was just 1-2k so I really can't even imagine.

con's:
Shity weather raining or milky sky 9 month a year, Only intresting car at descent price are car tuned up diesel pickup (almost only car available in MT), Almost every car second hand are AT (they cant' drive their), No surf exept a couple month a year in Pucket, No skiing, Only fat ugly foreigner with young thai girl,Wine is crazy expansive, Ugliest achitecture in the world they are slowely destryoing their landscape...........

We do okay on price here in Australia, really, at the end of the day. Similar to Japan. The full-fruit car is under $37k before statuatories ($36,490).

Japan's price is "steep" by American standards, but the GT is a well-specified car (except for its total lack of a headunit).

Our GTS is similarly specified with one or two little differences, little trim bits that most people don't really care about. I know that kids like me (or, like I was) will be hunting down "JDM" stuff in junkyards, though. I managed to track down a full JDM A4 Celica at the tender age of 14.

Volume has a lot to do with it. Ceritfication of standards costs $$$'s. Have to recoup that money. The US market is huge.

Does make me wonder though how one of the most affluent countries on the planet has the lowest price on most vehicles.

Yeah. Taking a few trim bits out of the 86 where people don't notice let them do huge volume-pricing cuts on the FR-S (despite everyone's complaints that it's "too expensive", nevermind that you'll get an RC for that money (with a little change) in the country it's built in...

Aussie prices are as follows:

GT : $29,990 AUD (RRP in Mount Fuji Red, $30,800 USD)
GTS:$35,490 AUD (RRP in Mount Fuji Red, $36,400 USD)

Can't believe the massive price differences!

By Australian standards our 86s are such a damn bargain, no kidding. Remember the 200SX? $60,000 when it was cheap to make turbo cars (just put the bits together and sell the car, 50,000km 3-year warranty so meh)
