What is the most money you would pay for a BRZ?

Ordered a Limited, so I'm hoping for something around 27-28.5k, mayyyyyyyybe 29k - if the test drive blows my mind. And not just "wow that's awesome to drive" kind of mind blowing, for 29k I want "holy fnck free sushi!" kind of mind blowing.

I do however need a car by early September, so there's still that timeframe I have to look out for...

$30.5K OTD for a Limited - $28,000 for the car after destination, 6.25% tax, $100 title/reg, ~$300 documentation fee. That's my limit, and it's uncomfortable at that point but I will make it work if I have to. I'm in a privileged position that allows me to lease certain Audis through my work for peanuts on a 6-mo. term with no money down, so if it's gonna be more, I'll say "f*** it" and lease another $55,000 Audi S4 for the same monthly payment as the $30k BRZ. Either way is a win

I distinctly remember when that article first came out, I was supremely excited about this car. Superb handling, 200hp NA and I quote "price is expected to be just above $20,000".

Shax, you're obviously not paying attention. Two things: INFLATION and BAD dollar-yen exchange rates. First, $20k in 2009 is now $21,223 in today's dollars. Second, $21,223 exchanges to ¥1766443. Considering the BRZ Premium is selling for ¥2478000 or $29,775, you should count yourself lucky that the FR-S is ONLY $24,900! That's nearly five thousand dollars cheaper than it is in Japan. And it's right on par with the MX-5, RX-8 and Genesis Coupe, so even if they could produce the car for less than $20k, they'd have no competition.

Please tell me-- what exactly has "changed" based on the above statement? Sounds like they made the car Exactly as they said they would 3 years ago, only with a price increase of over $5,000 and the actual performance figures of the car fall far short of what anybody on earth expected.

For one thing, inflation at 3% each year bumps the price up from 20k to 22.4k.

Yup...I'm right here ^...any more than that and I'm looking harder at used Caymans...I'm already actively shopping them even with a deposit down on a BRZ.
I'm wondering if +10k for an '09 Cayman will pay off on the other side at trade/sell time?
I could get a sweet Cayman for 40K...

I'm sorry but, anybody who thought this car would be 20k has no understanding on how money works in the world.

There are at least tens of known variables known to me (and I suck at math and all that).

And then there is all of the hundreds of variables that I don't have a clue about that can determine price.

Just to name a few:

Supply/Initial demand

Class Competition Costs

R&D costs

Parts cost

Specific Market Costs

Exchange Rates

Taxes/Tariffs

Safety Costs

As far as the OP goes, the most I'd pay for a BRZ is: 27OTD for Premium and 29OTD for the Limited. I don't need more power but the Limited's price to me isn't worth it; it would have to have more power IMO to justify anything over 30k. Mid 20's is what I'm comfortable with...

So I'm most likely going with the FRS because IMO it's the better value because I don't need/want the NAV. Plus the new halogen projectors (at least on my wife's Prius) are decent. And I like the look of the FRS more, both in the interior and exterior.

What has changed with the car? Nothing with the car has changed. The penny pinchers within Toyota got the final word on pricing. Add in changed with world-wide economy and the strength of the yen. But really, nothing has changed with the car. Same 2+2 with RWD and 200hp.

30K OTD. Where I am that's approximately 28K with destination and then add in title, registration, and doc fees.

You guys are way over thinking this. The fact of the matter is, the statements were made that 3 years ago when they said the car will "sell for a little above $20,000" they weren't saying "If the car goes on sale this year, it will be $20,000, but if it goes on sale in 2012, simply factor inflation and other market variables".

That is just nonsense.

When a car is in concept form, they are PROJECTING a price for the era in which it will be sold. At the time this press release came out, they were not projecting the car to go on sale until At Least 2011, so saying that we have to factor inflation, etc.. is just foolish.

Anytime i've ever read about a car that is to be released 2 years from now, they project the 2 years from now price. Not a hypothetical price in the current market. Why would I care what the price of a car could be in 2012 if the car isn't being released until 2015? That's just dumb. I would only care about what WILL THE PRICE BE WHEN IT GOES ON SALE.

I'm getting the car at $500 over Invoice so I guess I am in a different boat than most. For me it depends on what the Invoice price will be and not MSRP. I am hoping the Limited will be 28k MSRP and ~26k Invoice

Any guesses on what the Invoice price will be?
