the refresh for 2015 is announced, but does that make it official? countless times i've seen business's or car company's delay production/model changes etc. granted, it's usually with higher end performance vehicles.
my main question would be whether this refresh is a set in stone type of thing that is gaurenteed in the 2015 models, or does it have the possibility to be pushed back until 2016 or further
It gives the people holding out on the "refresh with more power" a good decision, and most of people's lease will be up by that time. Also goes to show that Toyota cares and is actually listening rather than keeping it cookie cutter style.

The Kers system done right will make this car beastly on the twisties and in stop-and-go traffic.

Does a reliable KERS system actually exist? I know F1 teams throw theirs out after every weekend...

Looks like Bosch was developing a system but nothing's been posted since 2008.

yea i am very happy about the info they are giving about their future plans. i do a lot of yearly driving and by the time this even comes around i just may be in the position where i turn my BRZ into my track/project car. initially wanted to do a swap or something down the line, just for fun. good to know there may be an 'easier' option of the 2.5 liter (only saying easier because i'd basically already have the blue-print from the production model), rather having to do a lot more work to incorporate something else.

I am not sure about the longevity of KERs in F1, but I have been learning some things on F1technical.net. If I am not mistaken, porsche utilizes a variant of the system in one of their roadsters?

You're thinking of the 918 Spyder, deliveries begin this December (planned, no gaurentees on that one) and is more of a hybrid system designed for performance as I understand it although prototypes did have KERS (flywheel type).
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_918"]Porsche 918 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

I'm realizing how poorly "KERS" is defined when the first thing that leaps to most peoples minds is F1 and it could effectively be applied to a Nissan Leaf:
Recover energy from the kinetic motion of the vehicle
Leaf utilizes regenerative braking
That power gets recovered and used for propelling the car forward.

Although it'd be pretty cool if "KERS" was only offered on an $845k sports car and a $25k sports car.

I for one love high revving engines in sporty/sports cars. When Honda moved to the 2.4L in the Si and the redline dropped 1200 revs it killed a lot of what that car was about. I would wager that most FRS/BRZ owners would rather keep the 2.0 and gain revs then move to a 2.5 and drop down into the mid 6000s.

I'd rather have 2.5 at the same revs...

Mid generation scares me... I dearly hope this car isn't six years from its end in production... Would just become another S2K wonder. 2.5 and a REDESIGNED INTAKE MANIFOLD!!!! ARE YOU LISTENING TOYOTA! The torque dip is BENEATH YOUR PRODUCTS! Tada San, please! I can handle a 7k redline if they remove the torque dip!

I have suspected a 2.5 since I saw the new WRX, as I'm hoping it will be an FA motor... If it is, I am very seriously considering a trade. For either that or a 2014 IS350

Assuming they will only bore it, 86mm stroke is safe for 8k rpm ( provided hat it has all proper supporting parts, e.g. stronger valve springs), there is no reason for you to worry about revving high..

While they re-jig the engine - I really hope they retune its sound to get rid of the grating crudeness. They need to listen to the new GTI or Fiesta ST cabin sound to get a clue...

Tada is young and not God's gift to Japanese auto industry. For him to be talking about a KERs in this car by 2015 is almost childish high hoping, are sales even enough to invest the capital for a bigger block ? Why is he making these "promises" that Toyota knows he can't keep ? Give him enough rope and maybe he'll hang himself so we can hurry up and close the books on Scion?

Subaru already has an FA20 Turbo in production, being sold today in their Japan Legacy.

Once Subaru gets out from under the DS-4 DI contract, they could easily sell the BRZ with their FA20T for no price increase and watch Tada & his Scion brand go the way of GM's Saturn.

Tada needs to get over his dislike of turbo's, small displacement turbo engines are the future in this segment of the market. People aren't going to pay $40k USD for a Kers FR-S and overseas they're not going to pay emission's tax for a 2.5L.

Just drop Subaru's FA20T in this chassis, DI and turbos are a match made in heaven.

And don't give us the throttle response b.s. a turbo has to be better than the GD torque dip.
