Wait they weren't? Kind of sounds like it from the way I hear people talk, MG's and Triumphs crumpled around trees like tin cans, Mustangs being slammed into the sides of mountains and Challengers being rolled over. Hell James Dean got killed in his Porsche, who was the last young star to DIE in a car crash on the road? I had to look up Ryan Dunn but he's the only one out of the last decade that I could find.

There was the added benefit that you KNEW you were driving a 2 ton missile capable of taking someones life unlike the isolated toaster clouds that most people get thrown into today.

I think @driftfan is just as tired as the rest of us hear people cry about the car being underpowered.....besides you probably couldnt kill yourself if you wanted to in those 60's steel boats of cars and the roads were waaaayyy less crowded

Hybrid drive + 2.0 turbo + preserved handling balance = my idea of win

If i had to choose one I would say that the hybrid drive would be more fun than a sc or turbo. I can see myself utilizing that system dozens of times a day ,at every stop and go and at the apex of a turn.

As someone who can't afford one until like 2020, if there isn't a BRZ, I'm not sure if I want one unless all Scions are as well equipped.

James Dean died in that Porsche because the prick in the large car coming from the opposite direction fucked up and ended up smashing Dean head on.

With more hp they will need wider/grippier tires. With more cylinders would mean a decrease in mpg. With everything that majority of consumers want, will inevitably add more weight.

I don't see them making a change without it upsetting the balance of the car somehow. The extensive R&D to make this car so well balanced, they wouldn't drastically change something(s) and upset the balance of this car.

Going to a 2.5 will not upset the balance of the car, the weight change is marginal since the motor will have the same exterior dimensions but a hybrid or turbo will increase weight. And tires are a non-issue, the current tires aren't even that good.

Hi, thanks for your reply to this thread. I was actually wondering something along the lines you said and had created another thread regarding it. So I hope you can make this more clear for me...so would boring the cylinders to 2.5 cause the potential tuned output of the engine to go down as it could withstand lesser levels of pressure and stress?

Essentially making the 2.5 ideal for more stock output but the 2.0 the better configuration for more potential tuned output?

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the EJ207 lost a lot of knock resistance when bored out to 2.5L. One of the downsides of thinner cylinder walls.

I'm not an expert on this by any means, but there are really two issues to consider with thin cylinder walls -- the strength of the cylinder wall itself and the cooling capacity of the block. The former is mostly self-explanatory. Here's a good thread to read on the latter (effect of thin cylinder walls on cooling capacity):

The bolded statement in your post is probably correct with respect to the EJ207 vs. EJ257, but difficult to predict for an FA20 vs. theoretical FA25 since this is all speculative at this stage. History has a way of repeating itself though which is what worries me.

So larger motor = less weight? Ok.

.5 L = 40hp? Ok.

If they move to a 2.5 it's not going to just be a bored FA20. Also, w/o any improvements to the head/header/exhaust I don't see a 40hp gain from just boring .5L. And even then they won't have a high flow aftermarket type exhaust system. I don't think they have a high revving 2.5L on the market currently (everything is 6.5K or below).

Revving another 1K will take some testing and a larger piston will mean a redesigned piston, rod, maybe crank? If this thing ever comes to fruition (which I don't see happening) it's going to cost more money, have less mpg, and I think you would maybe see 20hp max w/o a significant exhaust redesign, which also means more cost.

I don't think that moving to a 2.5L would be enough for me to sell my car and hop in a newer model.

Ryan Dunn-Lived in near my area, and died near my area, was sadly as mean and gruesome a thought, was drunk more than legal.
James Dean- He was going 85 mph in his porsche 550 and was rammed by a young kid in a Ford Tudor

All of these people were being irresponsible and your point stands, but age has nothing to do with the responsibility
