One article and writers opinion doesn't prove anything.. Each drive system has its own merits and downfalls.. It also depends on the implementation by the OEM how effective the system is.. And of course how the end user puts it to use.. I owned cars with each type of system with good results.. For performance driving, RWD has always been the best for me.. AWD was good too.. But always a weight penalty and could never warm up to the "push" feel you get in corners..
FWD is great for commuting and family oriented cars for the extra room and flat floors.. And fwd does do better in snow than RWD.. Especially since RWD performance summer tires suck in the cold.. I prefer RWD .. Like god intended it to be..

I learned to drive in Alaska as a youth. in the snow ... Nothing compares to AWD or 4WD. Performance driving in inclement conditions ... AWD is hard to beat. dry conditions ..... RWD is more fun, but current AWD cars today have a majority of the drive rear biased. The front drive engages minimally. I.e R8, lambos.

Sorry to be off topic on original thread.

This is FWD vs RWD... there is no arguing that AWD is the best for snow.

I wrote "like" hoping to avoid digressing into a FWD vs RWD in inclement weather argument. You originally wrote:

I'll take RWD over FWD regardless of road conditions. I've owned/driven four RWD cars through many winters in hilly western MA (and I've driven literally dozens of RWD work vehicles in snow/rain). I find RWD to be not just more fun than FWD, but also more predictable and controllable. It's important to understand vehicle dynamics, use proper tires, and not overdrive conditions (regardless of drivetrain).

To be clear, I'm not basing FWD cars as I've enjoyed driving many of them (GTI, Civic Si, MCS, S-works, MS3, GSR, CRX, tC, Abarth, Focus ST, etc). But they were fun despite being FWD, not because of it.

In my state, insuring and registering both a tC and FRS costs more than just insuring and registering one of them. I'm assuming it's also extra cost for you (though it may not be that significant).

My point was that even if one drives very little miles on cars like the FRS and tC, in most situations they still depreciate from age (so, it costs more to own both of them rather than just one).

My comments/questions aren't meant as criticisms/judgements. You're a car guy, and you're willing to put up with the extra cost because you love your tC. There's nothing wrong with that... I really was just curious by your comment about looking at your FRS as a way to keep mileage down on your tC, and your tC as a way to keep mileage down on your FRS.

You explained it, so :happy0180:
Yeah, I get a solid deal as my good friend is my agent through State Farm. Double car discount helps a bit. Biggest thing for me is that I have NEVER had a speeding ticket (knock on wood). Thus my insurance stays quite low. You get rewarded as your record stays cleans as well. Y

Overall, I am a car guy and have put too much on my time and money into the tC.

The average driver does indeed stink. Too many out there! Sounds like you have enjoyed some different rides along the way. It's nice to be able to have different cars as you can really nail down which make and model you enjoy the best.

I know what happens when the ABS sensor malfunctions. Don't be condescending. You haven't driven a REAL RWD car if you think that RWD is more predictable than FWD. Your Beemer doesn't count bro. Try driving a Corvette ZO6 and then get back to me about driving in the rain. I have driven Beemer and they are more predictable. Muscle cars are the worse.

Don't be one of those guys. Obviously you have no science education. Because you CAN NOT PROVE ANYTHING. You can only provide evidence for something.

You think there is no videos or pics of a RWD that has crashed the same way. Please...

Lol that fits crash was just pure bad luck. It can happen to any car regardless of what wheels the power goes too.

Muscle cars... really... I had this POS and never had an issue in the rain, but it sucked at cornering even in dry roads...

You're fighting a losing battle, son... Granted... american cars are the biggest pile of shit to roam this earth.

BTW, it's bimmer, not beemer

Who says a REAL RWD is an over powered heavy muscle car. Its not a real rwd sports car like the 86 is about balance and agility same as it was when the first 50's corvettes were designed.

the main reason I think so many people are selling their cars is because J Visconti tuned it and they want to get rid of it before it goes up in flames

I have experience with both.....All three have been DD's. No issue in the rain with any of them. M3 was stock, both Cobras, were pullied, tuned and ported. 500 rwhp on both the Mustangs.

both my girls meeting for the first time (still good friends with both owners of my cobras)

And my M3
