I spent way too much time playing FarCry (the first one) multiplayer. I remember (vaguely) starting off as a complete noob getting my ass whipped in ffa games, often with no kills. For some reason I stuck with it. I persevered, not realising how much strategy was involved in playing a fps. It took over my life at one stage. 60 hours or so online a week. Lost friends because I was too busy playing this game. I got into the top 50 in the world for ffa. If there was no one online I would practice until someone turned up. I ended up getting accused of hacking. I knew everything there was to know about playing that game. That is, I would be doing things that players didn't know were possible. I don't like to think how much time I put into that game. What I found really really strange though was I couldn't transfer my skills to other games. I was hopeless at CS. I still occasionally fire up FC and play against bots. I don't play for very long because I get depressed at how hopeless I have become.

My experience was much the same but started with Fallout 1 and went through the whole series. Did both 3 and New Vegas (including all side quests) twice each. One round as good and one as bad. Ate up a good portion of my life and I don't dare start again and hope to hell they don't release anything new.

I played Wasteland a lot as a kid. Probably beat it 20 times. Might and Magic II? Crushed it.

I played Tribes a lot. A review I wrote got me my first real job out of college, as a video game reviewer.

I played all Fallouts (but Tactics) and Wasteland 2 plus Oblivion. And I had fun!

In the past few years, Sauerbraten has been my game of choice. I haven't played it recently, though. Too busy. It IS installed on this computer. Thinking...

Why regret time spent having fun?

Video games gave me the writing opportunity and experience to become a writing tutor, part of my background that makes my living today.

Just don't get involved with an MMORPG. Those are evil. A friend of mine got so involved with COH and WOW that I'm amazed he's still married.

Oh I enjoyed every single minute with Fallout but when my wife asked what I wanted for dinner and my reply was "lizard on a stick" I knew it was time to roll it back a bit.
I obviously have a computer addiction problem though since now it is here that I spend my time on. The first time she tells me she read a good article and I yell at her for believing it or she says the fridge is making a noise and I reply "crickets live with it" then I will have to let this go as well!

Destiny on PS4 is my current addiction, I'm averaging about 100 hours per month. Its manageable with the wife, kid, work, and side work, but some nights I don't get nearly enough sleep.

In game when someone was using a sniper rifle there would be scope glint at distance. I remember walking down the street (in real life, not in game) and seeing a reflection off a can through some bushes. My immediate reaction was "sniper!" and I tried to side step. Yeah, that was too much gaming.

After I first played GTA 2, I saw a ramp on the drive home. I thought about jumping off it. When I saw a nice car, I felt like stealing it. Games are fun.

I keep opening random lockers and boxes at work and have yet to find a functioning firearm (much less a plasma rifle), piece of power armour or vital piece of rare electronics. I have however found loads of scrap iron and bottle caps so guess have had some luck.

On a tangent, I love when people have portraits as their avatars. I tend to read everything in the person's voice. I just listened to a motivational speech of Stallone and I totally added in "Quitters dont make stunt jumps and that aint you....YOU'RE BETTER THAN THAT!"

I'm also that way with the Assassin's Creed games and Borderlands.

I don't tend to play through more than once though, maybe twice, and I'm not a big random multiplayer fan so I usually avoid that black hole. I do get obcessed with getting 100% on everything though.

Right now, I'm still wrapped up in Just Cause 2.

I actually could get immersed in the FO 1&2 even more than the later ones. The turn based seems so outdated now but I remember sitting there for 5 minutes trying to figure my next move. Should I use my points to move over there, shoot and take one step or turn and run HMMMMMMM?
